Mail-in ballots pouring in

As of Tuesday, a quarter of the 5.3 million mail-in ballots sent to voters statewide had been returned to election offices, said California Association of Clerks & Election Officials President Steve Weir, also the registrar of voters in Contra Costa County.

If the turnout is 56 percent statewide, Weir said, California has received one-sixth of the estimated votes that will be cast by the end of the day on Feb. 5.
