Truth squad, meet the rapid responders!

By Josh Richman
Monday, January 28th, 2008 at 2:31 pm in Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Elections, Fabian Nunez, Gavin Newsom, Hillary Clinton, John Chiang, Lynn Woolsey.

And now, one day after Barack Obama‘s campaign rolled out its California “truth squad,” Hillary Clinton‘s campaign has unveiled its “rapid responders” in the Feb. 5 primary states, “a national group of truth tellers who will respond to inaccurate or misleading attacks directed at Senator and President Clinton,” the news release says.

In California, it’s state Controller John Chiang; state NAACP president Alice Huffman; San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom; Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, D-Los Angeles; and former U.S. Rep. Lynn Schenk, D-San Diego.

Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of truthiness! Perhaps we can have a Celebrity Deathmatch-type showdown — maybe Gavin can represent Clinton against Kamala Harris for Obama, or maybe a battle of the Lynns: Woolsey v. Schenk.

This a last minute invite and get together, we expect a great turn out! I have been busy getting this event organized with my colleagues from our Drinking Liberally cohort in Oakland.

I spoke to many of you early in the week about a public open forum Drinking Liberally is holding, hosted by the owner of the Grand Lake theater at his site in Alameda, Auctions By the Bay. It should be exciting and citizens have shown interest in doing a discussion and open forum studying the potential candidates for the Democratic Nomination. There are still so many undecided voters.

We at Drinking Liberally, Oakland in the grip of the excitement of the first CA primary which will have an actual effect on the national race are putting together a special event for all progressives who would like to take part. It will be an open forum where you the citizen will be able to discuss the issues of the day and have a chance to get some feedback on your questions from staff members of the three leaders Obama, Clinton and Edwards.

The format will be to ask the audience 3 questions, right now from initial discovery it looks like those questions for Citizens are around: The Economy, Health Care, and an exit strategy in Iraq and on the Environmental strategies of each candidate’s platform.

The idea is to facilitate questions and answers in a way the truly pulls forward the issues, and we hope to send a strong message to each candidate what the people of the East Bay would like to hear from their candidate. Much of the discussion I hope will lean toward the mechanisms to make make each platform come alive during their future presidency.

    Super Tuesday is upon us!

The Citizen’s Forum on The California Primary in the Democratic Party will be on:

Clinton accused of 1978 hotel rape

    By Martin Kettle in Washington
    Saturday February 20, 1999

Just a week after his acquittal in the Senate impeachment trial, Bill Clinton faces a fresh scandal about his past sexual conduct after a former campaign worker alleged that he raped her 21 years ago.

Juanita Broaddrick, who now runs a nursing-home business in Arkansas, told the Wall Street Journal that Mr Clinton raped her in the Camelot Hotel in Little Rock in 1978, when he was the state attorney-general.

The newspaper reports that Mr Clinton persuaded Mrs Broaddrick to have coffee with him in her hotel room during a conference of nursing home administrators in 1978. She alleges that he then forced her on to the bed, where he held her down, bit her lips and raped her.
