I moved to CCC in 2002 and am just getting around to getting involved with the Republican party internals. From the events I have gone to it seems there are a lot of really good conservative people out there. I just don't think the direction of the Republican party on a state-wide or national level has promoted traditional conservatism (and it always flows downhill). We need to "get back to basics" of the Republican party and remember why people sign up and vote for our party.

As a long-time party member told me, "compromise" is the key to politics. I am certainly willing to compromise, but not the core beliefs of what our party is supposed to be and what made us a great party. I will fight for those conservative values the best I can.

The central committee should be more focussed on who is running in our district, are they running with our parties best interest, and then guide them in that race. Lets just not sit back and let them run simply because they are "Republican". Our candidates should exhibit our values and our party platform first.

Once we can start showing the county what Republicans are really about, voters will start flocking back to our party and want to contribute money to the cause. We just need to provide a stable platform and quality people to represent us.

Glad to hear that Arne and Patty are agreeing with me about the vapidity of our elected Republicans.

Don't be so critical of alias's Patty. Without alias's you would never have had the federalist papers.

As for the folks moving out here from SF and swamping out Republicans. Don't be so paranoid. I would take the attitude that either you are a Republican or a potential Republican. There is always hope for a conversion if the party becomes more appealing to real people.

I also think Graham-Reefer makes some valid points.
I am glad to hear he is running for the Central Committee.

Sounds like Patty and Arne agree that making excuses is the only way to make positive organizational change.

That's too bad, since most organizations in both public and private sectors agree that good leadership usually helps organizations produce results despite challenging opportunities Patty describes as insurmountable negative trends.

Patty clearly blames candidates and peoples' "mistaken ideas" for leaving the party. How typical to blame others rather than oneself, and then shush the rank and file who should be so bold as to question the brilliant leader and his sycophants. That's a shame. For this sort of knee-jerk response to ANY CRITICISM of the current chair and committee, I don't blame people for wanting to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal from the mullahs of republicanism in our county.

Tirades, threatening phone calls, pouting, bullying, picking sides, using executive session to voice personal attacks, aren't exactly top shelf managerial tactics, let alone the failure, after repeated requests, to produce regular, verifiable financial and accounting statements to document one's stewardship. Sounds more like an unaccountable clique circling the wagons when their sinecure is discovered and challenged.

Both Patty and Arne complain that people should step up instead of complain. Well I have, in deciding to run for the Central Committee out of Supervisoral District 4.

Here's a typical reaction I get when knowledgeable people learn of my decision: "WHAT??? Have you ever BEEN to a Central Committee meeting? No responsible Republican I know would step foot in one and some of them used to be on it. They didn't like sitting there feeling their brains turn to pulp as they listened to the drivel. They even quit going to the Red White and Blue Ball, which some of them used to run -- in its successful days. Should you win, I'd predict you wouldn't last six months before quitting. These people are not rational...." I received basically the same advice from a local elected only it was described as "a snake pit."

Patty and Arne, maybe its time to consider that---just maybe---these attitudes from the people who left, as well as other respected voices in our community, are not about their "mistaken ideas" but yours.

It's time to get the GOP in Contra Costa County back on the right track.

Vote for Bill Gram-Reefer for Republican Central Committee (D-4)
