So the race for District 5 is heating up. Unfortunately there is no badly needed competition for Gayle Uilkema's seat since Mike Menesini has now said he won't run.

But District 3 is even more interesting with Guy Houston running for Mary Piepho's seat. But what is really interesting is John Gioia's desperate attempt to protect his protege Piepho. He wants to protect his fiefdom and knows he can't control Houston.

Gioia's now fumbling around trying to change campaign money by limiting the amount that can be transfered from on campaign fund from another. Houston has reeived a lot in contributions while Piepho has collected very little (one wonders why).

My take on the failure of Piepho in raising money is that she has lost the support of many of us who supported her last time. She has lost us because she has been a disaster, especially on the financial side.

Gioia and Piepho are the two Supervisors on the Finance Committee. With the county's finances in such poor shape, why did this committee meet only three times in 2007?

Another interesting question is why is liberal Democrat Gioia working so hard to get an ostensibly conservative Republican Piepho re-elected? It's easy to draw your own comclusion.
