If it were not for men and women willing to make the ultimate sacrifices — their lives, their health, even the risk of becoming homeless — this entire country may become “homeless” for any system based on individual liberties. Your cowardice — “don’t enlist, you might get hurt” is absurd. Put your money where your mouth is: next time your property is being robbed or you have a fire in your house, don’t call the police or firemen. One of them may become disabled while fighting for your property rights.

Thanks for this thoughtful analysis. Oddly, even if “MAF” were to succeed in getting rid of the protest, they would still not have eliminated the most powerful counter-recruitment message from the streets of Berkeley. While I do not think this protest is an effective way to end the war, I also know that insulting the protest will not help the “pro-military” cause.

Because the most powerful anti-recruitment message on the streets of Berkeley is really the vast population of homeless veterans. If anybody was looking for a reason not to join the military, they don’t need to listen to code pink. All they need to do is look at the way veterans are treated. And, if MAF cares about what they claim to, they should be more upset about the homeless veterans than about the peace activists.
