Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal Glover will host a town meeting Tuesday to talk about two issues that will impact the future and character of Bay Point: Whether or not Bay Point should annex to Pittsburg and the proposal for the use of $8.6 million in Port Chicago Mitigation Funds.
Glover holds the Bay Point Town Hall twice a year. This meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Ambrose Recreation and Park District center’s dining room, 3105 Willow Pass Road, Bay Point.
Here’s what Glover sent out in a press release on the subject:
John Greitzer of the county’s Community Development staff will present the plan for the use of the Port Chicago Mitigation Funds. The fund was established when the U.S. Navy closed Port Chicago Highway and was meant to facilitate east-west travel between Bay Point and areas west of the community. With accumulated interest, the mitigation fund’s original sum of $5 million has grown to $8.6 million.
Another topic of high interest is the possibility that Bay Point might be annexed by the City of Pittsburg, which would allow the unincorporated community to retain a separate identity as Bay Point. County and City of Pittsburg staff will address the concerns of the proposal initiated by a group of Bay Point residents calling itself the Residents for A Better Bay Point.
Glover emphasized he has not taken a position on the annexation.
“I will support whichever direction the residents of Bay Point want to go,” said Glover.
Glover is seeking re-election to a third term. His challengers include Erik Nunn of Oakley, Don Parscal of Brentwood, Mary Rocha of Antioch and Gary Agopian of Antioch.
