Livin’ high on the hog at the G8

Is it in poor taste when world leaders who’ve gathered to deliberate on a global food crisis sit down to a sumptuous, 18-course gourmet meal? You tell me.

This being California, I’ll just call attention to the wines:

  • Le Reve Grand Cru Brut/La Seule Gloire Champagne – $147/bottle
  • Isojiman Junmai Daiginjo sake — $83/bottle
  • Corton Charlemagne 2005/Louis Latour Bourgogne — $149/bottle
  • Ridge California Monte Bello 1997 — $125/bottle
  • Tokaji Esszencia 1999 — $475/bottle (500 ml)
  • No word on whether President Bush, who is said to be a teetotaller, just opted for a Coke.
