Renegade GOP you are probably correct. He is too busy protecting tax loopholes, such as the Yacht-tax fiasco. I think you will find his name listed below. (Taken right off of this blog site).

Assembly Republicans voted down a bill today which would’ve closed a tax loophole letting those who buy yachts and aircraft avoid paying California taxes.

The 18 Assembly Republicans who voted against closing the loophole are Joel Anderson, R-La Mesa; John Benoit, R-Palm Desert; Tom Berryhill, R-Modesto; Mike Duvall, R-Brea; Ted Gaines, R-Roseville; Martin Garrick, R-Carlsbad; Guy Houston, R-San Ramon; Bob Huff, R-Diamond Bar; Kevin Jeffries, R-Riverside; Rick Keene, R-Chico; Doug LaMalfa, R-Biggs; Bill Maze, R-Visalia; George Plescia, R-San Diego; Jim Silva, R-Huntington Beach; Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita; Todd Spitzer, R-Orange; Audra Strickland, R-Camarillo; and Mimi Walters, R-Laguna Niguel.

Just out of curiosity, Renegade GOP, have you seen the list of cuts that will happen in Contra Costa if the GOP continues to insist on a "cuts-only" budget?

It's pretty horrific - take a look at http://contracostaarc.com/assets/images/BudgetCuts.pdf.

And the irony is, the costs of making these cuts are spread unevenly. It will be tremendously expensive for seniors and people with disabilities, and their families, including the middle-class families of children with autism, Downs Syndrome and cerebral palsy. And it will end up costing taxpayers more when folks end up in institutions or on the street.

Wouldn't it make more sense to make some judicious tax increases, e.g., restore the upper tax bracket on people making more than $320k/year to the level it was BEFORE the Wilson tax cuts of 1997, when the state had a large surplus? This would be a marginal increase from the current 9.3% to 10%, and it would be deductible on their federal tax returns.

So explain to me again why this tax increase is more heinous than cutting health care and disability pensions for disabled children and seniors?

John is right, it's all in the spin! Maybe we ought to educate our legislators about tax loopholes (which is what he called them in his press releases) versus tax credits. Or sadly, maybe it's our voting population that needs the education.

Don't you think since he is termed out he might want to do something to help our elderly and disabled populations and leave a positive legacy for himself?

Inasmuch as Guy is term-limited, I doubt he is feeling much pressure. I've received a few e-mails from him calling attention to various personal income tax credits at risk in the Dem's budget plan, positioning guy as a champion of low and moderate income folk. Talk about spin!
