I worked with Leon Panetta when he was a Congressman and I was the National Security Agency Representative to the Defense Language Institute/Foreign Language Center overseeing training for military and federal civilians in 43 languages and dialects. Leon would attend the annual General Officer Steering Committee meetings held in Monterey and I can assure you that Leon fully understood the purpose of DLI/FLC and the intelligence work its graduates would be conducting. He suggested that I attend the Monterey Law School run by his brother, as he knew that I'd be going into politics when I retired from the Navy. I used to kid Leon that we both married women above our status, as we both married Sylvia's :) Leon Panetta is one of the most honorable politicians I have ever met. He is a fiscal conservative and a supporter of the U.S. military. I’m with Sue on this one.
