SF Mayor Newsom will campaign in Concord
By Lisa Vorderbrueggen
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009 at 4:42 pm in 2010 election, Gavin Newsom.
California gubernatorial hopeful and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will talk in Concord next week about California’s future.
Imagine that. A gubernatorial candidate in Concord nearly two years before the election. Does Newsom’s appearance signal that Concord will become a key campaign stop for all 900 people who have declared an interest in running for California governor in 2010? (Yes, I know there are not 900 but it feels like it.)
Shall we start a pool on which local official Newsom taps to introduce him?
If you are interested in seeing what he has to say, Newsom will speak at 7 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the Concord Senior Center. Read more for the email invite and how to RSVP.
Dear Friends,
With an historic and inspiring election now behind us, it’s time to bring the optimism and desire for change that has swept the nation home to California. That’s why I’m inviting you to join me for an informal conversation about California’s future.
California is facing some of the most difficult challenges in the nation, and the political gridlock in Sacramento isn’t getting any better. It’s time to change the conversation for a better California.
In San Francisco, we have shown how to make bold change by focusing on proven policy solutions. We are the only city in America on its way to universal access to health care. We are improving our schools through a partnership for achievement that extends from guaranteed funding for universal pre-school, to opening the door to a quality college education for our public school graduates. We have made San Francisco a national model for environmental stewardship and economic development by attracting new high-tech and clean-tech industries, and training workers in new skills to help protect our local economy.
Please join me on Thursday evening, January 15 as we talk about how to solve California’s most crucial challenges, and how we can all participate in the struggle to get California back on track.
What: Contra Costa County Conversation about California’s Future with Gavin Newsom
Where: Concord Senior Center
2727 Parkside Circle – Concord
When: Thursday, January 15 – 7:00 PM
You can RSVP by (emailing RSVP@GavinNewsom.com) or by calling (415) 516-1252.

Well, I’m pretty sure that it won’t be Concord Councilwoman Helen Allen introducing Newsom

It should be interesting to hear from the Mayor about the Health Care and other unique initiatives in San Francisco and how they manage their budget to pay for these things.
I hope that we in Concord can learn from the efforts of other cities and improve on them for the services and efficiencies that our citizen desire without an expansion of government.

It will be interesting to see who will be introducing him … another fine upstanding “moral, ethical” gentleman from CoCoCounty?????

Newsom is a self-serving jerk!

If you want to see “progress” in social services, visit the Tenderloin, say Turk St, about 6 pm. Don’t visit any later, though, until longer daytime.

I personally have been following Mayor Newsom’s deeds and find him to be the kind of progressive mayor that San Francisco should have. He alone cannot make things happen just like a president has to work with the senate and congress. All in all, he has been very willing to admit when his ideas or actions have not been the best. Then it seems as though he moves forward with another approach. This shows integrity of office. I would be very interested in hearing what he would like to see happen for our great state. I don’t look for a perfect human being in office. I look for a positive, progressive and action-oriented person to vote for.

I cannot wait to have Gavin speak in this republican, conservative city: hopefully he will help open the minds of some of the citizens that have been shut for some time. Welcome Gavin. Can’t wait to see you here!
