House Armed Services sub-committee chairwoman Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Alamo, is headed to Europe Thursday for the Munich Security Conference.
The delegation was originally intended to be led by sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Joe Lieberman, I-Connecticut, but the Senate is squabbling, er, deliberating, on the economic stimulus package and they can’t leave town.
Rep. Jane Harmon, D-El Sugundo, will accompany Tauscher. As a congressionally sponsored trip, taxpayers will pay for the members’ travel costs.
Vice President Joe Biden and new National Security Advisor Jim Jones, a close friend of Tauscher’s, will also attend the conference.
(CORRECTED ON 2/6/09 TO REFLECT THE FACT THAT TAUSCHER WAS PLANNING TO ATTEND REGARDLESS OF THE SENATORS’ SCHEDULE. LAV)
