Arnold’s new television ad on the budget

By Josh Richman
Monday, July 13th, 2009 at 3:17 pm in Arnold Schwarzenegger, state budget.

A new ad, paid for by Gov. Schwarzenegger’s California Dream Team ballot measure committee, hits the airwaves across California tomorrow, featuring the governor calling for a balanced budget that cuts wasteful government spending and doesn’t raise taxes:

To go with it, the governor today launched a new campaign-style Web site, www.StandForCA.com, to get his message out.

Don’t worry, he can afford it. Campaign finance records show the Dream Team committee has taken in almost $12.9 million in late-reported or $5,000+ contributions since the start of 2009, while the related Budget Reform Now committee raked in about $15.7 million. Sure most of that went to the May special election’s failed measures, but there’ve been some notable contributions since then too.

Meanwhile, SEIU Local 1000 President Yvonne Walker sent the governor a scathing letter Friday, accusing him of breaking his word by protecting corporations and the rich while scapegoating state workers for California’s financial woes. The union says the governor hasn’t responded yet. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

You elected me to control spending in Sacramento. Not as a Republican or Democrat, but as a Californian.

At times, this has proven to be a tough task. But now the stakes have never been higher.

Californians are losing jobs, losing homes. And they’re worried about their children’s future.

And Sacramento is asking me to sign a budget that raises your taxes and spends money we do not have.

I will not sign a budget with higher taxes that cause businesses to leave or more jobs to vanish. And I will not sign a budget that does not address the waste, fraud and abuse in our government.

And I will not sign a budget that pushes our financial problems down the road. Because the road stops here.

I am standing firm for a balanced budget that does not raise your taxes.

I’m asking you to stand firm with me, stand for California.

I’m old enough to know better, I’m too young for retirement and too old to start a new career. Twenty three years ago I started my career with the State of California. As a single parent I knew that it was the right move; Job security, a salary and plenty of opportunities to make a difference in this world. I was such a dreamer! One day I realized that my life hasn’t changed at all. I haven’t climbed the financial ladder that my education promised me. I’m still counting pennies, waiting for the bus and which is worse at the mercy of an arrogant, ignorant man with a personal agenda. I’m behind with my mortgage payments, I haven’t been able to buy groceries, my daughter is staying home because there ’s no school budget, Shame
