CD10: Garamendi swearing-in set for Thursday

By Lisa Vorderbrueggen
Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 at 12:23 pm in 2009 CD10 special election.

You can watch Congressman-elect John Garamendi’s swearing-in ceremony on C-SPAN on Thursday morning sometime around 9 a.m. California time.

Does anyone know where John’s District and D.C. Offices will be, Contact Information, and Staffers?

  • Clay

John will be using Ellen Tauscher’s office in Rayburn for the remainder of this Congress as he is replacing her, which are big and very nice. Once he wins election in his own right in 2010, he’ll get put in the “congressional office raffle” and get an office suite more typical for a “freshman” member, read: much smaller and less opulent. :)

Well now gee whiz. I thought a person was not considered elected until the election has been certified.

It would be a shame for The Big Gar to get all the way to DC and be denied access.

    What about it, Mr. Weir?

  • Tom Benigno

    Congratulations John:
We wish you the best that was a great campaign. Make sure you read that bill carefully before you vote on it.

  • John W.

He gave a brief speech on the House floor this morning. He was very gracious toward Harmer.

We do not plant to certify this election until at least Friday, Nov. 20th. The certification process is our accounting check on the whole election. Then, we will provide our certified results to the Secretary of State who will, along with the other three counties, certify the results for the whole district.

Article 1, Sec. 5(1) of our federal Constitution states: “Sole Judge of Qualifications of Members 1. Each house shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members,…”

As far as we are concerned, we have not completed the election until we certify final results.

The Honorable Congressman John Garamendi is using the same Walnut Creek District Office, 2121 N. California Blvd., Suite 555, 925-932-8899. The staff has changed except for Karen Tetford. The new receptionist is Beth Willow. As of 2pm today, Committee assignment(s) have not been make. He will be returning to the District for Vererans Day, barring a vote-scheduling conflict in the House.

  • Lisa Vorderbrueggen

Mr. Hoffmann is incorrect on a couple of his statements.

Yes, Garamendi has moved into Tauscher’s former office in Walnut Creek.

But Beth Willon is the interim communications director for the new congressman. And three of Tauscher’s former staffers will remain on Garamendi’s staff including district director Jennifer Barton.

More personnel changes are in the works, of course, as Garamendi moves to put together his staff. Keep in mind, he was just sworn in yesterday.

  • Ralph Hoffmann, Guest Columnist

Thank you Ms. Vorderbrueggen for correcting me. You get paid; I’m just a volunteer Guest Columnist. When I visited the Office, they were all busy in their Conference Room; as you wrote, Garamendi was just sworn in yesterday. I hope the information on Vets Day appearances and Committee assignments, will be available for your Sunday Times column, or at least by the Tuesday print editions.

Is it true he’s only serving out Tausher’s term. I’d have thought he was in place for 2-years. So, we need to go through this again next year. Hmmmm. Maybe someone will rise up and actually make a challenge against this carpetbagger.
