I think the FPPC is worse than useless: it undermines freedom of speech and freedom of association.

Imagine that you and a friend want to set up a web site about any topic related to politics. Say lower taxes. Or the environment.

If you wind up spending $1000 in labor (your time in setting up a web page) or materials, you need to first file paperwork with the FPPC showing all your finances.
If you don’t do it, they’ll turn you into another Russ Howard, fining you millions.

Of course, they only do this to anyone who challenges the incumbent party viewpoints.

A very convenient Gestapo.

Let’s cut the budget painlessly by abolishing the FPPC.
It’s a useless, petty collection of lawyers who are angling for a big job with the ACLU, or possibly Ralph Nader..
