RNC to launch ad on House Dems’ ethics

The Republican National Committee will start airing an ad tomorrow regarding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s pledge to run the “most open and ethical Congress in history:”

On the East Bay front, watch at about the 19-second mark for a Jan. 5 San Francisco Chronicle headline about the House Ethics Committee investigating (or “investingating,” as this ad says) Rep. Pete Stark, D-Fremont; note that this wasn’t followed by a headline about Stark being cleared by the Ethics Committee later the same month.

For more on the GOP strategy this ad represents, see the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza’s blog item.

So, if instead of promising to “drain the swamp,” Pelosi had pledged to match the ethical standards of the House under Republican rule, the RNC would now be saluting her for having delivered. She deserves to be called out on this, but the RNC doing it is a bit like Bernie Madoff taking shots at AIG for falling short of the company Mission Statement.
