TEA Party will boycott San Francisco

By Lisa Vorderbrueggen
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 at 3:24 pm in San Francisco politics, tea party.

Let’s get this straight.

San Francisco is boycotting Arizona over its immigration crackdown. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has even put the kibosh on all those city employee golf, er, business, trips to Phoenix.

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg wants California to follow suit.

And now, California TEA Party groups  are boycotting San Francisco with a protest march in …  San Francisco.

President and founder of the Pleasanton/NorCal TEA Party, Dr. Bridget Melson, sent out an announcement of the May 1 event, which will start at 2 p.m. at the Civic Center at 24th and Mission streets.

“I say spend your money anywhere else than in San Francisco, vacation elsewhere, dine elsewhere — if you protest (in San Francisco), bring your own food, coffee and water,” she said in her news release.

I guess that means they won’t be stopping for a sourdough bread bowl at Fisherman’s Wharf?

Read on for the full news release:

TEA Party groups in CA enact boycott on San Francisco

President and founder of the Pleasanont/NorCal TEA Party, Dr. Bridget Melson has issued a notice of a San Francisco boycott to 10,000 TEA Party patriots strong and counting. Tri-Valley Patriots and East Bay Patriots also support the boycott.

Founder Melson says, “I am very worried about this country. This is no joke here. It is not getting any better and in fact, it is going downhill fast. This is how civil wars start. I say spend your money anywhere else than in San Francisco, vacation elsewhere, dine elsewhere–if you protest here, bring your own food, coffee and water.”

Then we have the fact that Obama is trying to dictate what happens in AZ by saying that “this is a poorly conceived law”.

Over 70% of the citizens of Arizona are in favor of enforcing the state immigration measure and yet President Obama still tries to get overly involved and states that “you can try to make it really tough on people who look like they, quote, unquote look like illegal immigrants. One of the things that the law says is that local officials are allow to ask somebody who they have a suspicion might be an illegal immigrant for their papers — but you can imagine if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona, your great, great grandparents may have been there before Arizona was even a state. But now suddenly if you don’t have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you’re going to be harassed, that’s something that could potentially happen.”

“Ok,” says Melson, “so let’s allow these illegal’s to continue to kill hard-working Americans who have a RIGHT to be here?”

Tea Party Patriot Diane says, “I wonder what the results would be if they took a poll on how many CALIFORNIANS would like such a law as Arizona’s enacted here! My guess is an overwhelming majority.”

“Although I continue to preach respect, at this point I having a difficult time preaching that when it comes to our inept local and state representatives (referring to Mayor Newsom, Los Angeles councilwoman Hahn, and State Senate Pro Tem, Darrell Steinberg). They certainly are not respecting us. They have clearly gone over the edge here. I hope this is a wake up call to ALL–Democrats, Republicans and Independents that the power hungry progressives have taken over. It is not about party lines at this point–it is about your freedom of choice and being improperly represented”, Melson says.

May Day Protest in SF for AZ : Saturday May 1, 2010 – 2pm San Francisco, Civic Center at 24th and Mission, sponsored by the Golden Gate Minutemen. 24th & Mission and march to Civic Center Plaza, San Francisco.

Any states that really want to help out the poor beleaguered illegals, they should invite them all to migrate over ASAP

  • AJ

    It’s getting ridiculous!

  • Dave

I’m in for the boycott of San Francisco and all their teams!!!

  • Lori

I will boycott San Francisco and encourage others to do so.

“I am very worried about this country. This is no joke here. It is not getting any better and in fact, it is going downhill fast. This is how civil wars start.”

Only because loonies like these push for them. Seriously, look what’s happening in Oklahoma! They’re forming a militia…with state Senate approval, no less! Yes, I am very worried about this country as well…because people like these are in it. And they’re armed, no less.

about time the silent majority of Americans stand up for what is right. Remember the term is to remove illegals from Arizona, and good for the state of Arizona to take a stand.
I agree,, boycott San Francisco and Los Angles, California is in worse shape than any other state and they want to control everyone else with their boycott.
    TAKE BACK AMERICA! for Americans.

    PREDICTION #1
    Bloodshed, perhaps lots of it.
    PREDICTION #2
Blood will be mostly that of Tea Party Types.
    PREDICTION #3
Small arms weapons that law enforcement will not discover until shooting starts.
    PREDICTION #4
When all said and done the real loosers will be the working folks in AZ and not the corporations. They are people now, too. Rich class is my guess.
    PREDICTION #5
HISTORY will show this day and date (MAY DAY, look it up, the start of the second civil war in the US.

HOPE I AM WRONG ON ALL PREDICTIONS.

These city’s better be careful about boycottin’ Az. They need to worry about their own city’s not ours… Last time I checked, here in Az, we have about 65% in favor of the bill.. Second, the Goveners ratings went up by more than 10%.. California needs to be careful because a lot of us goto California for vacation.. and if they start to boycott, their tourist attractions and hotel industry will suffer. With 65-70% of people in favor of a law and another state try’s to boycott– guarantee we will return favor.. It works both ways!!! Here’s my idea.. Since Frisco and LA want the illegals, then when we apprehend them, we will fly them to LAX – SFO and drop them off and let them infiltrate their hospitals, schools, workplaces….. What part of ILLEGAL is LEGAL!!!!

  • http://none kurt romesburg

Whats needed is a list of business’s who book conventions in the bay area. Contact them, and make it clear we will not tolerate any company benefiting those who do not honor American values. That, and an anti tourism campaign will hopefully have a crippling effect; tit for tat.

  • Sarah and Meg WHO ??!

It’s simple – enforce existing Federal immigration law.

Don’t turn a sympathetic “blind eye” to the laws of the country. . . . do exactly what you tell everyone to do. Abide by the laws; work through appropriate channels to CHANGE those laws where you might disagree with them – but until they ARE changed – - you must continue to enforce them.

Why are we ignoring the fact that so many are ignoring existing laws ?

  • A. Bennet

There is a bit of confusion in your article over the location of the march and rally.
Civic Center is at Market and 9th. (I think it is 9th st.) 24th and Mission is not called civic center. It is in the Mission district where the 24th St. Bart station is located.

Yes it is odd that our SF gov’t officials are making so much noise about another states attempt to protect itself. Their rhetoric is so hysterical sounding and not truthful. They are trying to make this all sound like something it isn’t. I want people to be treated well but the papers are full of words such as “nazi, racism, racial profiling,”. Heck wanting to to stop people coming here or staying here who are not here legally is non of the above.
    Thanks.
    A. Bennett

  • Be_Devine

Really? A bunch of crazy racists who don’t like immigrants from South of the border are going to start their little protest march in THE MISSION? Pass the popcorn!

  • TBA
  • Jim Owens

Most teabaggers will take public transport to the protest — that’s right, the government heavily subsidizes it!

A big conspiracy to move people efficiently!

  • dale

A national boycott of San Francisco is a great idea!!
I grew up in the Bay aArea and am happy to be gone from there. 70% of the country agrees with this bill which only reaffirms an exsisting Federal Law. You idiots are not that powerful in numbers to make any Arizona boycott a big deal.

  • James

I don’t get it. Is this protest at 24th and Mission or is it at the Civic Center? They are at least 2 miles apart. Also, why protest in the Mission? It’s really crowded and full of patriotic immigrants who love America– not government fat cats.

  • Sarah and Meg WHO ??!

Where is the racism in expecting that all who work or live in the U.S. do so according to established immigration law ?

  • Why so serious

lolz, “over 70% of the country”? Pfffffff, good one chief, good one. Seriously. Nice job cherrypicking one polls results (Rasmussen reports, you decide!) and applying it too “All America!” . Unless 70% of this country is majority white and Tea-bagger, I highly doubt quoting a right-wing poll result makes your argument any stronger.

  • Mark

I like the comment from Be Divine:
“Really? A bunch of crazy racists who don’t like immigrants from South of the border are going to start their little protest march in THE MISSION? Pass the popcorn!”

Haha! That’s what I’m saying! Try to bring your close-minded racist protest to the Mission and see what happens!

  • Dwain Kaiser

What a choice! San Francisco or Arizona as a vacation spot. Well I know where I’ll be this summer. The fact that S.F. Will be Tea Bagger free is just a bonus.

  • JohnnyO

I love it. I boycott you. You boycott me. So at the end of it all. What really happens? Nothing. But hey I do care for the illegal aliens. And I think we all should learn to speak spanish to make it easy on them. And as for the jobs they are taking away. example fastfood, 99 cent market stores, Honda dealers. (yes they are there too. washing the cars) Working on Gov jobs. let them have em. These are jobs that the lazy ass Americans will not do. So Don’t bitch if your out of work. Cause these jobs are taken by someone who came her ILEGALY. (This is not a mexican thing but more of out of your turn thing)

  • Sara and Meg WHO ?

What is “racist” about expecting people to abide by existing immigration laws ?

You know, the same laws that my great great grandfather had to abide by when he came to this country.

The same laws that my adopted nephew had to abide by when he became a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Why should so many be allowed to thumb their noses at the established laws of this nation ? If the laws are antiquated, then change them. Until then – enforce them. It’s pretty simple and has nothing to do with “hatred” or “racism” (for many people, that is).

  • David

I’m disgusted by the arrogance of those in SanFranFreako (though not surprised) to even suggest such a boycott. As a result, I will be contributing to anyone organizing a boycott of this elitist liberal asylum. I also began to research companies headquartered in the city and will be working to form boycotts against them, including: Advertising.com, Gap, Inc., Levi Strauss & Co., Gymboree, McKesson, Sega of America, Charles Scwhab, Wells Fargo, Ghiradelli, DelMonte, and Williams-Sonoma to start.

  • Julie

I will check all of the labels when I go shopping tomorrow. If it is from California-put it back on the shelf!

JUST SAY NO TO ANYTHING FROM CALIFORNIA. My guess is that they will cry “uncle” before AZ does.

  • Trace

Boycott San Francisco!!! This broke city or state will be the one that will be begging for help

I am boycotting San Francisco as well. I have bought premium wines from K&L Wine Merchants in San Francisco and other San Francisco wine merchants. My purchases are usually high end 1st Growth Bordeaus such as Margaux, Lafite, Mouton, Latour, Ausone to name just a few of the premium wines of France. I have bought Vega Sicila and Pingus from them as well. THAT is coming to an end, I will find a large wine merchant in the state of Arizona that can get me these same wines.
I am encouraging fellow wine lovers to cut off all wine purchases from San Francisco wine merchants and to cut off doing any business with San Francisco.

We are also looking at opening a restaurant in the Willow Glen area of San Jose, one of the beers on tap we were going to pour was Anchor Steam. We will now be pouring beer from one of Arizona’s top micro breweries instead, we will be doing research on this.

We are also boycotting any businesses in Los Angelos as well.

I saw Jay Leno at Correspondent Dinner his best line was; “That was my favorite story (this year) Republicans and a Lesbian bondage club. It’s ironic, Republicans don’t want lesbian getting married but they do like watching them “tie the knot”. So I thought that was interesting.”

You can say the same about Tea Party, they say they respect the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence but they do not mind passing laws, through weak Governors who only care about getting reelected on the backs of undocumented workers, that will not pass Constitution muster, just like Arizona’s House Bill 2779 from two years ago, keep passing them Arizona and the rest of us will continue to challenged them and you will fail in a court of law. Their phony patriotism is sickening, they are just racists going by another name. We all know you are just itching to put a sheet on their head? Let’s face it the Republicans had eight years to deal with health care, immigration, climate change and financial oversight and governance and they failed. It appears that the Republican Party is only good at starting wars (two in eight years, with fat contracts to friends of Cheney/Bush) but not at winning wars as seen by the continuing line of body bags that keep coming home. The Republicans party will continue turned inward to their old fashion obstructionist party (and their Confederacy appreciation roots) because they continue to allow a small portions (but very loud portion) of their party of “birthers, baggers and blowhards” to rule their party. I will admit that this fringe is very good at playing “Follow the Leader” by listening to their dullard leaders, Beck, Hedgecock, Hannity, O’Reilly, Rush, Savage, Sarah Bailin, Orly Taitz, Victoria Jackson, Michele Bachmann and the rest of the Blowhards and acting as ill programmed robots (they have already acted against doctors that perform abortions). The Birthers and the Tea party crowd think they can scare, intimidate and force others to go along with them by comments like “This time we came unarmed”, let me tell you something not all ex-military join the fringe militia crazies who don’t pay taxes and run around with face paint in the parks playing commando, the majority are mature and understand that the world is more complicated and grey than the black and white that these simpleton make it out to be and that my friend is the point. The world is complicated and people like Hamilton, Lincoln, and Roosevelt believed that we should use government a little to increase social mobility, now it’s about dancing around the claim of government is the problem. The sainted Reagan passed the biggest tax increase in American history and as a result federal employment increased, but facts are lost when mired in mysticism and superstition. For a party that gave us Abraham Lincoln, it is tragic that the ranks are filled with too many empty suits and the crazy Birthers who have not learned that the way our courts work is that you get a competent lawyer, verifiable facts and present them to a judge, if the facts are real and not half baked internet lies, then, and only then, do you proceed to trial. The Birthers seem to be having a problem with their so called “facts”. Let’s face it no one will take the Birthers seriously until they win a case, but until then, you will continue to appear dumb, crazy or racist, or maybe all three. I heard that Orly Taitz now wants to investigate the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC), she wants to re-establish a family values party, that’s like saying that the Catholic Church cares about the welling being of children in their care, too late for that.

Anybody who is opposed to ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS A RACIST OR A NAZI in the eyes of the idiot liberals, Especially the ones in San Francisco. Nope, it doesnt matter to these LEFT WING MORONS AND PANTYWAISTS that illegal immigration costs out nations billions each year, not to mention the fact that many these so-called “undocumented immigrants” are VIOLENT CRIMINALS who engage in rape, murder, robbery, drunk driving and so on. I don’t give a damn if they’re mexicans or martians. If they are here illegally, they must be shown the door. I think real Americans should boycott San Francisco and the fruitcakes who run that city. And if you pseudo American left wingers out there don’t like what I just read, you know damn well what you can do about it! The so-called tolerant and compassionate leftists are the real Nazis.

  • Frank Cooper

I’m in full support of the Tea Party boycott of SF.
    Make it national.
Since SF is a sanctuary city, Arizona should offer free one way bus tickets to SF for all illegals.
Also, send back the prisoners they are keeping for California.
But, dont FORCE anyone in Arizonia to boycott SF.

  • Benito

I will tell you what I have seen these last few days I saw our beloved Stars and Stripes flag, the flag from Mexico and some flags from other countries. I saw children, parents and grand parents together in solidarity, my people the working class, they may not be sophisticated but they got the message heard. From publish reports the demonstrations included both US citizens and undocumented workers. This brought me a smile because I always enjoy seeing brothers helping brothers.

This reminds me of a parable from the good book where a Levite and Priest come upon a man who fell among thieves and they both individually passed by and didn’t stop to help him. Finally a man of another race came by, he got down from his beast, decided not to be compassionate by proxy and got down with the injured man, administered first aid, and helped the man in need. Jesus ended up saying, this was the good man, this was the great man, because he had the capacity to project the “I” into the “thou,” and to be concerned about his brother.

You see, the Levite and the Priest were afraid, they asked themselves, “If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?”

But then the Good Samaritan came by. And he reversed the question: “If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?”

As I see it, we should stand-up against a law is passed in anger and is against our Constitution/ Bill of Rights/ Declaration of Independence and is targets a specific group.

God bless all my brothers and sister that stood side by side with our brothers and sisters in need. When our judgment comes I know God will not discriminate by country of origin as men do.

  • Meg and Sara WHO ??!!

OK – so when I can buy *and own* land (not a 99 year lease, please) in Mexico and as a U.S. Citizen – I’ll think about eliminating the immigration laws in the U.S. Now that we’ve established that your country and mine have selfish economic interests – let’s move beyond the self-serving emotional rhetoric.

All we ask is that you obey the laws that are already in place – - – I’m not referring to the knee jerk stupidity that Arizona is attempting to instate – - I’m talking about the original immigration laws you and millions of others have chosen to ignore – - the same kinds of have had in place for decades and enforce reasonably for their own economic benefit and protections – - if you choose to ignore these laws, please do not try to suggest that the consequences that might befall you, however unlikely, is of any creation of anyone other than yourselves – and yeah, those consequences might include folks doing other stupid things like trying to enact other protectionist laws.

The oroginal immigration laws are not bigotted or made in hatred. They are practical economic realities for the country of your birth, the country of my birth, and all countries of the world in which we live. Many have chosen to ignore these laws . . . such ignorance begets more ignorance.

  • Elwood

Here is the Elwood handy dandy immigration plan:

If you’re not here don’t come.

If you’re here and you’re not a citizen, go the **** home.

    Compassion, my ass!

  • Hey You!

The real flaw in the logic here is that some folks believe that the violence and illegal activity is due to undocumented workers. In reality, violent crime is down in Arizona but the media and the hard-liners in AZ make sure that if an undocumented worker is involved, it’s big news, but the facts are that violent crime has slowed in the last few years in AZ. The law passed isn’t going to stop the real problem which are drug runners and smugglers, It isn’t even going to slow them down.

There was a great article in the LA Times featuring an interview with an ex-Phoenix cop who had to deal with these issues. (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/immigration/la-me-0502-lopezcolumn-20100502%2C0%2C2732982.column)

And he said it very plainly after a white cop was killed: “I told people that it’s not whites or Hispanics who killed Marc,” he said back then. “It’s drug-dealing cop killers. The issue isn’t ethnicity — it’s crime and drugs.”

And this is the real problem with this law is that it doesn’t address the real issue, at all.

I hope that every American, regardless of where he lives, will stop and examine his conscience about this and other related incidents. This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened. All of us ought to have the right to be treated as he would wish to be treated, as one would wish his children to be treated, but this is not the case.

I know the proponents of this law say that the majority approves of this law, but the majority is not always right. Would women or non-whites have the vote if we listen to the majority of the day, would the non-whites have equal rights (and equal access to churches, restaurants, hotels, retail stores, schools, colleges and yes water fountains) if we listen to the majority of the day? We all know the answer, a resounding, NO!

Today we are committed to a worldwide struggle to promote and protect the rights of all who wish to be free. In a time of domestic crisis men of good will and generosity should be able to unite regardless of party or politics and do what is right, not what is just popular with the majority. Some men comprehend discrimination by never have experiencing it in their lives, but the majority will only understand after it happens to them.

I get asked for my ID all the time – this weekend it was at the movie theater for Iron Man 2, Costco, and Safeway. Costco was to enter, the others were for making a purchase. The AZ law is consistent with federal law and the police only ask for ID when in connection with other reasons, such as a traffic stop. Get real folks – most of you probably wear ID while at work to prove your supposed to be there or enter the building.

Mr. Benito, your tenor shows you discriminate against those that legally immigrate here. My rights are trampled upon when people break the law to get in this country and then use benefits that do not rightfully belong to them.

“All Men are created equal”! The founders had it right, when attempting to form a perfect union and they also knew that they were not there yet but knew we one day would get there. Lincoln moved us forward as did JFK and LBJ. This Nation was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds. It was founded on the principle that all men are created equal, and that the rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.

It is my contention that this AZ law is not constitutional and will fail when challenged (unless they add more amendments), pretty funny for this so called perfect law.

San Francisco is owned by white male homosexuals. They are rich and privilege. If those illegals where in their backyards they would be screaming! Who cares what Gavin Newsom says he is a puppet for the white male homosexuals.

Lastly, because San Francisco made their town a “Sanctuary City” for underage illegals, A father, uncle, and son where murdered at a stop light by an underage illegal.

The Amendments were created to update the constitution according to new environments and situations. “Illegal entry” means exactly what it says and if the fourteenth amendment neglected to address this measure then it should be modified so that it will support the law to prevent illegal entry. If a foreigner enters America illegally with the intention to have a child so she can stay; the foreigner has victimized her own child and our law should not allow such a premeditated illegal scheme.
This is called strategic colonization. Those who allow this act and want to legalize it are questionable and have little regard for the United State of America.
Arizona’s violent boarder condition is no secret; with over 27 tunnels transporting narcotic into our society has been documented time after time. Why does Obama need to stop Arizona from enforcing this federal law so badly? If a federal law has been ratified how can anyone, including the president forbid any law enforcing agency to enforce it? Only monarchy countries do that.
