The Lockyers probably are going to set a new record for spending in an Alameda County supervisorial district election. It would be interesting to learn how exactly Lockyer and Figueroa differ on the issues. Also, will one or both ultimately contend for Rep. “Pete” Stark’s congressional seat? Perhaps through a primary challenge? As for Bill Lockyer, he’s probably spending more for his lopsided Treasurer race than just about any other candidate for statewide constitutional office other than governor. Has he given up on his ambition to become governor? Maybe he’s spending all of the money just to brag that he received more votes than any other person on the ballot in 2010 (even more than Controller John Chiang)? Is he just passing the political “baton” onto his wife?
