Contra Costa supervisors reorganize

By Lisa Vorderbrueggen
Wednesday, January 12th, 2011 at 2:29 pm in Contra Costa Board of Supervisors, Contra Costa County.

The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors held its annual reorganization meeting on Tuesday morning, and I captured some video.

The board met in the morning, where a judge swore in newly elected Supervisor Karen Mitchoff, District Attorney Mark Peterson, Treasurer Russell Watts and Auditor Bob Campbell, along with re-elected Assessor Gus Kramer and Clerk-Recorder Steve Weir.

They elected a new chairwoman, Supervisor Gayle Uilkema, and selected a new vice chairwoman, Supervisor Mary Nejedly Piepho. The vice chair will rotate to the chair’s position in 2012 barring a major schism with her colleagues.

Outgoing chairman and Supervisor John Gioia gave a speech, followed by incoming chairwoman Uilkema’s speech.

The board then moved out to the Lafayette Veterans Memorial hall for its annual reorganization luncheon hosted by the incoming board chair. By tradition, the new chair presents symbolic gifts to his or her colleagues. (Some years, the gifts are pretty funny, although the giver hasn’t always intended them to be humorous. This year, not so much.)
