Re #7

Totally agree. Concept 4 is not just the "most logical map." It is the only logical map, out of the 4. I don't know why people in East County would want their representative on the board to spend time dealing with issues on the other side of the mountain. As a resident of San Ramon, I sure don't want to be an "add-on" to a district that is dominated by East County issues.

The full concepts of the staff's maps are on their www.ccredistricting.org website. Our proposed maps aren't there, yet.
The Contra Costa Redistricting Task Force, a group of citizens who have joined efforts to propose new maps for both the County Board of Supervisors, as well as the state's Redistricting Commission process for the legislature and Congress, has officially submitted two proposed maps, known as Plans A and B into the process. They are based on some basic, common-sense principles, some of which were adopted by the Board in February, in their "Guiding Principles/Criteria" - which includes compact and contiguous districts, maintain communities of interest such as cities, school districts, special districts and unincorporated areas, using geographic features, and keeping population of each district within 5% of each other. Our maps will be included in the process. We also added common issues, such as transportation, growth and economic development. We pursued a 1% deviation in population from district to district.
We gave copies of our initial maps to the county staff at a meeting we had with them, in March. Their Concept 4 is very much like our Plan B, which we made a few changes to before final submission, yesterday. All of their plans, as well as our Plan B split more than one city. However, our Plan A only splits Concord, the county's largest city.
All the plans should be in the Board's agenda on the county website by end of the work day, today, according to the Clerk of the Board's office.
