And being fairly new to CA, I don’t claim to be an expert on Boxer’s Congressional career. Nor am I her biggest fan, though I did vote for her against Carly. Her “call me Senator” moment with the Corps of Engineers general made me puke. However, in my book, standing up to your fellow Senators, all but 8 of whom infamously voted to repeal Glass-Steagall, counts as a “DID” in my book. She was on the same page with Alabama Republican Senator Richard Shelby on that one. As I recall, she also fought the good fight on wasteful military procurement practices a number of years ago. I would mention her record on environmental issues, but I’m pretty sure that counts as a DID but SHOULDN’T HAVE in your book.

If you’re asking about legislative accomplishments, I can’t say. However, that would be true of most members of Congress. Maybe you’re an expert on who authored or spearheaded what laws. I’m not.

I don’t claim to be the greatest student of history, but I can’t recall ever reading about someone being enshrined in the history books for voting against something.

Tell us something she DID, not something she DIDN’T.

News International is a vast media empire. It also publishes the hacker-free Times (London) and the fun-to-read NY Post. To damn the entire enterprise for the crimes of a segment (in the scheme of things, small segment) is akin to demanding BP be dissolved because of the Gulf disaster. Senator Boxer doesn’t give tuppence about The News of the World, but she does care about Fox News Channel. She sees a chance to smear it and get away clean.

True, and the rumor that News Corp. hacked 9/11 victims is just that, a rumor.

However, if News Corp., a U.S. company, violated the foreign corrupt practices law, that’s a very big deal. Given the extent of the scandal across The Pond, I’d say some fishing expedition activity over here is called for, to see where things lead. If the people already arrested start singing, who knows what we will learn.

She was one of only 8 U.S. Senators to vote against repeal of Glass-Steagall. Tom Campbell was also one of few members of Congress to vote against the repeal.

Boxer is a publicity whore.

This is just another maneuver to get her blonde sculpted ancient image on TV.

What has she ever done in too many years in the Senate other than promote herself?

I’m trying to think of major pieces of legislation she has authored, but I’m coming up with a blank.

Hey Elwood, apart from the fact that Boxer is not your favorite pol, what is so outrageous about her and Rockefeller posing these questions? News Corp and its subsidiaries are going to be on the hotseat for a while, on both sides of The Pond, and deservedly so.
