Most cops don’t live in the city where they work, just like most people don’t sleep in their office.

In the case of Oakland, who the hell would want to live there if they didn’t have to?

So the OPD gassed the violent rabble just to make Quan look bad? Why bother when she’s doing such a fine job of it all by herself?

Oh, and there are Martians living in the sewers!

Missing from all the discussion of the police action is any insight into its motivation. The OPD has it in for Quan for 1) winning the 2010 mayoral election despite all the funding they gave to their preferred candidate, and 2) for what they see as “throwing under the bus” former Chief Anthony Batts. This was their way of throwing her under the bus.

And on a completely different, but not unrelated note, when you see the spokesperson for the police officers union giving an interview to the media wearing a San Ramon Valley High School sports team jacket, you have to wonder if the police don’t also like rubbing Oakland residents’ noses in the fact that most of them live elsewhere.

The police chief (former) resigned because he was being micromanaged and couldn’t make a move without clearing it with the mayor. But now she says she didn’t know what the new police chief was planning. This is a woman who got into a public spat with another councilwoman over a reserved parking place perk.

After the cops knocked down a 24 year old male Iraq War vet with either a tear gas canister, or a rubber bullet, that fractured his skull, and left him powerless on the ground, when other caring people went to his aid to get him out of the line of fire, one of the cops soft lobbed a flash grenade into that group, so as to harm one or more of them as well.

All of the above is fact, as recorded on unimpeachable video record.

Keith is right.
