Anybody know if state constitutional and statutory provisions on county government preclude Contra Costa voters from passing a ballot measure imposing term limits for Supervisors? I know several of the Charter counties and SF have term limits, but CoCo is a General Law county. I believe San Joaquin (also a General Law county) has term limits, but don't know how that came to be. Would the Supervisors have to vote on it first, or could it be done by petition?

I think a limit of three four-year terms (lifetime or consecutive) would be good for the county. It's absurd to have Supervisors make a career of it, complete with the cushy retirement benefits. State Assembly and Senate members no longer have pensions. Neither should county supervisors.

Two moronic county supervisors, two political hacks who probably couldn't hold down real private-sector professional jobs, win re-election without opposition. Seems like a Soviet-style election to me. And our nation has the audacity to lecture other countries about democratic elections.
