Supposedly, one of the key Romney people is close to Drudge. During the primaries, Romney’s opponents reportedly complained of Drudge’s favoritism toward Romney.

If there is any truth to the notion that this was a strategic plant, Rice can’t be pleased about being used in that manner. If, on the other hand, there actually is serious consideration of Rice, I see Ann Romney’s hand in that.

Early in the primaries, Romney said during an interview that he would follow the Dick Cheney model in choosing a running mate. I interpreted that to mean somebody with lots of national government executive branch experience. Both Rice and Rob Portman would fit that description. None of the other names being floated would.
