He was a Democrat but highly regarded by Republicans as well.

A fella named Bill Clinton comes to mind. The Tea Party Senator from Utah, Mike Lee; and the Republican Senator from New Hampshire, Kelly Ayotte are other examples. There are many more, but those are ones the came to mind immediately.

Most of the time that she appears on those programs, she says very little about what she is doing as attorney general. Instead she yammers on in platitudes like some interchangeable political commentator or political hack. She always seems to be elbowing her way to the next highest job. The last few attorneys general of California, both Democratic and Republican, have been jokes. Each thought that it was the stepping stone to being governor. Even though Bill Lockyer has not run for governor, no one can deny that running for attorney general was not part of some scheme of his to try to run for governor someday. Wife Nadia was supposedly to give him some credibility with the Hispanic community, but note how quickly he dumped her once she caused too much drama.
