I found this article rather confusing. She really didn't do that well at all compared to earlier Republican candidates against Feinstein. You can't easily compared the percentages across elections because of this year's new "top-two" format unless you measure the spread between the Feinstein and her Republican opponent, not just the percentages. Feinstein's share of the vote has continually increased from 55.9% in 2000 to a new of high of 61.6% (and still growing) this time around. The spread between she and Emken (23.2%)is only 1.2% lower than her vote spread in 2006 (24.4%) and the spread between she and Emken is actually 4% larger than her 2000 race (19.3%). So Emken did relatively worse then her 2000 Republican opponent this time around...which wasn't that loooong ago! This article which attempts to use overall percentages as data points is comparing apples and oranges because of the way we now elect folks. YOu now have to use the spread between the two candidates to make an apples to apples comparison, not overall percentage. I'm not saying she didn't run a spirited campaign on little resources, but the reporting appears to me to be inaccurate.

According to Wiki, Emken led a successful multi-state campaign to secure insurance coverage for autism-related services. Good for her. But a Republican in favor of health insurance mandates? Heresy!

Betting Elizabeth Emken might have some competition from the newly minted Contra Costa County Supervisor Candace Andersen for that assembly seat . . . to say nothing of the long line of Democrats hoping to succeed Joan Buchanan.

@1 - Yep, you nailed it Rasta. I'm sure this isn't the last we've heard from Emken, and the 16th Assembly District's open seat in 2014 seems like a prime opportunity.

@2 - How many readers do you think got the Simon & Garfunkel reference, Bruce?

Wow a 23 point loss is something to write about. How about this Josh. Humm,,,, anyone with a brain knows Empken had no hope of winning a US Senate seat. But she put her neck on the line for the state GOP.......... don't be suprised if there is a little political payback in terms of support for her running for Joan Buchanan's open seat in 2014. After all name ID on a ballot is a big deal.

Just Saying!!
