I remember when Stark brought in Cornu and everyone said “now you’ll see a real campaign crush Swalwell”..

Well, there was no campaign. Only a bevy of meaningless flyers.
The truth is, there was no candidate. Pete Stark has been gone for years, and adding to that reality, he wasn’t even physically in the district.

Turned out to be a empty shell of a candidate, sitting on a shelf in Maryland. Say what you want about his career, this year he was gone in all respects.

Thank God for this new “top two” system or he may have held the office for years more.

I watched a video of Swalwell’s victory remarks to his supporters. I’ve been very anti-Swalwell but must now say that he is definitely more polished now than when I attended his first joint appearance with Stark and was totally unimpressed. I think he’ll be a good bipartisan and centrist player in the Ellen Tauscher tradition and wish him success.
