I’m just speculating, of course. What we often hear about these mass killing events is that the perp was a loner who, on top of being mentally broken, felt a sense of being aggrieved and not in control of anything that happens to them in life. Lashing out in this violent manner is payback and empowerment. Sticking around to be captured or killed in SBC fashion is giving back some of that control. It’s like, ” you can’t hurt me, because I just did it to myself.”

People who do SBC generally are in control of their faculties. Life has become unbearable for them, or they know they’ve done something they can’t live with, or they can’t bear the thought of prison. But they can’t get to the point of blowing their brains out or hanging themselves. So, they go the SBC route.

That’s my theory, but I’m not married to it.

Thinking about your first paragraph John, I wonder about the timing. Why did the little POS shoot himself when he heard the cops coming? If he wasn’t a sniveling coward, why not go out in a blaze of glory, suicide by cop as it were? God knows he had the weapons and the ammo to do it.

Elwood, I have a different theory about why Adam Lanza and others like him so often kill themselves. I don’t think it is because of regret over the awful thing their incredibly disturbed minds made them do, or because they fear capture or being killed. Instead, I suspect it is one final “I’ll show them” deed, denying us the satisfaction of getting them. The Aurora movie theatre shooter didn’t kill himself. But, in his twisted head, he fancied himself some kind of action superhero figure. So, staying alive to bask in the glory of it all was part of the game plan.

The more this sinks in, the worse it gets. You see the pictures of the kids, hear about their personalities and what they liked to do, think about what they might have become in life. And you think about the principal, teachers, custodian and staff who acted heroically to try to save lives. It just makes you go back and forth between anger and being deeply sad.

There is a God who created this world. He provided guidelines for living and redemption for failure. If we can’t teach that to students, they will have no reason to practice morality. There is no hope when life throws them trouble and pain. They grow up thinking they accidentally evolved from primeval goop and begin to act like the animals with which we equate them. They are crippled and helpless because we’ve let ourselves be bullied into silence regarding truth. It’s time to teach truth to all students, that it is totally irrational to believe that the intelligent and complicated life here on earth could possibly have resulted from random purposeless accidents, that the God who created us expects something from us and will reward faith and eternally punish those who reject Him and practice evil. If someone is determined to be evil, they are always free to reject God, but someone who is desperate for help and redemption can know on Whom to call. Randy Thomasson is right.

As a law enforcement officer I agree completely with Randy Thomasson. We should follow the example of the Israelis and arm every teacher. That is the only way to prevent future school shootings. If you notice, these mass shootings always occur in “gun free” zones. The criminals know that there won’t be anyone armed to stop them.

God does NOT send an angel of death to kill. It doesn’t make any sense he would make that comment since he probably doesn’t even believe in God. Evil is done by man through the devil. God is full of sorrow at the tragedy this 20 year old very lost soul committed. This has been a horrible tragedy, but these children are now safe at home with Jesus and can never be hurt again. I’m so sad for the families & friends. This country has gone mad…rejecting our Lord who promises nothing but LOVE and FORGIVENESS. Why? Who wouldn’t want to live in and have a worldview of that? It’s also amazing that those who reject God are so full of hate, and yet they claim to be people of “tolerance” All I can say is that ALL of the unbelievers WILL have their eyes opened one day and know the truth. For most, this will be the moment you die.
Even though my child goes to public school I teach her that she can talk about God all she wants and thank God she has a teacher who does the same & even prays with her kids in class.

What bothers me most is that we can’t even talk about good and evil, right and wrong, or even simple compassion in school. We can’t allow a kid to wear a t-shirt that says “Think God!” but we can allow a kid to wear one that says “I have two mommies.” We allow GLBT clubs on school and try to prevent student Christian clubs from meeting on school grounds the same way.

We can’t talk about virtue or character without talking about the One who defines what virtue and character mean. We have no standard against which to measure good and evil, right and wrong, without God. What that means is that we are left with a culture where we refuse to intercede for a young man like this out of fear that we will be seen, not as compassionate and caring, but as somehow trying to violate his parents’ rights to let him be treated or not as they see fit, or his right to NOT be treated if he doesn’t want to be.

At the very least, we should be teaching the moral and Judeo-Christian ethical basis for our country’s founding. Sadly, we can’t even do that any longer in public school.

I agree. I believe that each parent who lost a child there would not have opposed the principle being trained and armed to defend the students. At the least, we should consider all Government schools must have armed guards/off-duty police. This is a strange new world.
