I wonder how many Assistant Whips there are. In the last Congress, the House Democrats had a Minority Whip, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, 8 Chief Deputy Whips and an unknown number of Assistant Whips (unknown, because nobody lists them).

In the 113th Congress, the web site for the office of the Minority Whip (Steny Hoyer) names three Chief Deputy Whips as the Whip Team and makes no mention of Assistant Whips. However, I was able to find a press release on at least one additional freshman Democrat (Dan Kildee, Flint, MI) who was named an Assistant Whip. I'll bet there are a bunch of them, so they can tell the folks back home that they have already been appointed to "Leadership" jobs.

I for one am more than willing to give Swalwell the next 18 months to see how he does...before signing on to support yet another member of the calcified Democratic establishment that has run Alameda Co. politics for the past 50 years. The same group that was more than willing to rubber stamp Pete only a couple years after hoisting Nadia Lockyer to high office. The same candidates who stood arm in arm, smiling for the camera with Hayashi, AFTER she had been found guilty.
In short, it will take quite a bit for me to push Swalwell aside so that a member of that prior crowd can resume complete control of politics in this area.
Who, other than themselves, wants that same old crowd to be controlling the next 20 years of East Bay politics?

NOT SO FAST
