Mike Honda, the Enlightened One, no more represents diversity in Congress than he does in California. He is a lock-step liberal who happens to be of Asian ancestry.

The face of Asian Americans in this country was led by Congressman Mike Honda for the past decade. His mantra was always to help build a leadership team that can continue all of his efforts to empower an ethnic commmunity that continues to fight for parity in this country. So I am not surprised that Mike would welcome a new API face to carry the banner in the DNC while enabling Mike to continue his outstanding work in helping this administration in Congress and making sure the voice of his constituents in his district is heard. That’s what leadership is about. Not party titles.

Mike Honda leaves DNC on a high note! He is proud that one of the people he supported so strongly during her campaign will follow in his footsteps at the DNC, and he urged all of the DNC members to support her, as DNC members have supported him in the past. Mike Honda, as Vice chair of the DNC accomplished a lot: he criss-crossed the country helping all Democratic candidates, including Asian American and Pacific Islander candidates; helping them campaign, encouraging them to continue on; and helping them raise funds for their campaigns. He also helped create a pipeline of young Democrats, ready to take on the mantle of leadership in the future. Proof of the pudding is that in this Congress 5 new AAPI COngressional Members and one new AAPI Woman Senator joined the ranks of the Freshman Class of the 113th Congress! Today we celebrate Congressman Honda’s contributions and we strongly supporthis 2014 race as the incumbent member of his district!!

Honda “I step down as vice-chair deeply satisfied with the diversity of color and creed that has entered our ranks,”

As a resident of the Bay Area, where it would seem that 3 out of 4 legislators, supervisors, city council persons, and school board members are “diverse”, can we get to a point we don’t have to keep running “diversity” up the flag pole.

It seems that the only citizens who qualify as non-diverse elected officials are now straight white male Christians.
What, they make up about 25% of all local office holders?

Most of us no longer keep track of such stuff, but there goes the “talking points” Honda and others still trying to make more diversity a goal.

Locally, diversity has jumped-the-shark.
