After officiating the CAl high and Foothill High dual tonight, I am more convinced that Foothill H.S. will finish first or second in the NCS section Wrestling Championships.
I could possibly see 7 wrestlers from FHS placing at the NCS championships. I think foothill will have 103 champion, 112 finalist (frosh aura) that will loose respectively to Triggas, 119 will place, Boyer will go to state and be top 4, Wipfli will be top 2, 145 and 152 will both be top 4. FHS is the most improved team in the NCS. Coach Yozzo, former three time all american from Leighi University, along with the other coaches on staff, has elevated the quality of wrestling in Pleasanton. The foothill program is a class act; they don't whine for points, they don't call irrelevant time outs when a call can go either way and they come prepared to wrestle. They weigh-in their kids in (14 of them) and don't pretend to play games with the line-up. All of the kids are classy and don't disrespect the coaches or the sport. Look out for foothill.

Liberty has traditionally been one of the better teams in the NCS for the past 10 years. I believe Liberty has won a NCS banner, a team that finishes top 3 in the section, every year but once for ten straight years. DLS has had some good individuals but has never won a league title or an NCS banner.
As a wrestling official, i see most of the teams from our section/area and see Liberty, College Park, Foothill and Granada as the top four teams. Healdsburg from the northern part of the section will be in the hunt with the above teams for the section title. DLS and Mt. Diablo will both probably finish 6th or 7th reapectively. DLS does have four pridictable placers in Pica's, Nate Spangler and Sheridan. They could possibly squeeze a 7th of 8th place medal from little spangler, Zoteway and the 215 lb.
I think College Park is the favorite to win the section because of possible number of medals they could win. I see CP with five sure medals, one or two finalist, and three additional kids taking 5th - 8th. I think the team could possibly have 8 medalist. Liberty on the other hand has Klingsheims, Bodkin and Lanilhan as definite placers along with Smith and Rios as potential placers. Watch out for Foothill and Granada. Foothill could possibly have four finalist,Aura's, Boyer and Wipfli. They also have one or two other kids that will place top 6. Foothill has steadily improved the most over the past four years. Granada will be right there if everybody is healthy and makes weight. Right behind Foothill as one of the most improved teams is Mt. Diablo. Coach Derone has done an excellent job coaching the Red Devil Wrestling Team. Tony relates to the kids and has them motivated, conditioned and disciplined.
Just an officials opion on the status of NCS wrestling.
