Rain, rain go away

In the middle of my week of tennis, the heavens open and rain permeates the East Bay. Just my luck. As a result, the DFAL tournament has been postponed until tomorrow. Semifinals and finals in both singles and doubles are left to be played, with a few familiar names still in the hunt. Lauren Curry (Northgate), Alex Iova (Acalanes), Shawdee Rouhafza (Miramonte), and Ellie Faulkner (Campolindo) are the remaining singles players and tomorrow should feature plenty of competition.

As an aside, the tournament has been moved from St. Mary’s College to Club Sport Valley Vista in Walnut Creek. Tomorrow’s slate of tennis also includes the EBAL tournament coming to a close at Club Sport San Ramon. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb by saying some of the best league tournament tennis has yet to be played.

Also, for those interested, the NCS Team Tournament starts Tuesday at sites to be determined. Foothill is the defending NCS champion but in watching the leagues wrap up this week, I wouldn’t put it past Carondelet or Miramonte to give the Falcons a tussle. Here’s an incentive to go watch some tennis Tuesday: Whoever can find me at whatever match I end up at (and I won’t tell you where I’m going) will get a blog mention that night. How’s that for a prize?
