I decided to head out to Pinole last night to watch the Huskies vs Pinole. It was a great high school football game. The Huskies offense moved the ball at will in the 1st qtr, but Pinole's defense made some plays in the 2nd qtr and kept themselves in the game, only being down by 7 at the half. At the start of the 2nd half, the Huskies looked a little flat, nobody jumping up and down, everyone on the team was just standing around, it didn't look like a team who was up 14-7 at the half. Then the Huskies kicker who had been booming the ball all year, kicked the ball short again, just like he did in the 1st half, he had a bad game both punting and on kickoffs, it must have been the cold weather. Of course, the Pinole kicker had no problem. Pinole drove the ball down the lifeless Huskies throat and scored. Pinole was jacked up, while the Huskies looked like they were ready to throw in the towel. The 3rd qtr was all Pinole, as those kids were flying all over the field and Huskies couldn't keep up. THe Pinole QB was on fire. He looked like a pro back there putting the ball on the money almost every time and if it wasn't, the receivers would adjust and make a great catch. I was very impressed with the speed of Pinole. THe Huskies finally woke up towards the end of the 3rd qtr and had a nice drive and scored to pull within 7. Then the Huskies started the 4th qtr with a great call, an onside kick where one of the Huskies had the hit of game, a punishing blow that caused the Pinole player to drop the ball and the Huskies recover, game on. The Huskies move the ball into FG range, then on 4th down they tried to draw Pinole offside, but they didn't bite and everyone was just standing around, but no whistlle, then the Washington QB sees an open receiver down field, but didn't have his feet planted and over threw his target and it's intercepted at the 10. That's when Pinole hit the play of the game, a beautiful pass and catch for 80+ yards, but the Huskies fought back and scored to pull within 7 again, but the clock was not on their side and the clock ran out. There was no quit in the Huskies and they played a great game, but mistakes and the speed of Pinole proved to be too much for the Huskies to overcome. Game over.
