I’m going to try to do my best to post some updates from tonight’s Class B title game. I’ll be doing so through my phone, so have a little patience. At the least, I’ll get scores up at the end of each quarter.
Both teams were stopped on their first drives. Midway through the first, its 0-0.
St. Liz has moved the ball well on its second drive. It converted twice on fourth down to get inside the red zone but a penalty for blocking below the waist pushed them back to the 30. That was costly as their third attempt at a fourth-down conversion failed to keep the game scoreless with 17 seconds left in the first quarter.
The first quarter is now officially over and the score is 0-0.
St. Vincent couldn’t do much on its second drive and had to punt back to St. Liz. About 9 minutes left in the second quarter and its 0-0.
Another scoreless drive here and a pass by St. Liz QB Keith Seales on third down was incomplete and it had to punt. St. Vincent ball with 7 minutes left in the quarter.
St. Vincent is now the one moving the ball well, getting deep into St. Liz territory. Facing a fourth and 8 from the 18, St. Vincent called its first time out with 1:31 left, then St. Liz’s Harry Jamerson sacked SV quarterback Ian Williams to get the ball back. It’s still 0-0.
A few nice pass plays and a pass interference got St. Liz in range to try to score but an interception by Daniel Hanson-Hirt on on a Hail Mary pass ended the half with it tied 0-0. St. Liz sophomore Dave Douglas has a game-high 71 rushing yards on 14 carries. St. Vincent sophomore Kris Farinha has 53 yards on 13 carries.
St. Vincent has to punt on its first drive of the second half. On third down, St. Liz’s Douglas nearly had an interception and possible TD, but couldn’t quite hold on.
St. Liz is on the board! Douglas capped a seven-play, 65-yard drive with a 3-yard TD run. His 2-point conversion run failed, so its 6-0. Douglas has 106 yards on 19 carries.
St. Vincent moved the ball to the SE 12, but a holding penalty on a play in which Farinha was hurt (he never returned) moved them back. Then Williams was sacked by Tyler Woods and fumbled. Jamerson recovered for St. Liz at the 31.
End of third quarter, still 6-0.
That turnover was crucial. St. Liz goes 69 yards in 13 plays and Douglas scores from a yard out. It’s 12-0 with 8:38 left.
SV just turned it over on downs at the SE 14 with three minutes left. Starting to look good for St. Elizabeth as it still leads 12-0.
GAME OVER. ST LIZ WINS 12-0!
Congrats to the Mustangs. From 0-9 to NCS champs or as Douglas put it “From nothing to something.”
Douglas led the way with 182 yards on 32 carries, including both touchdowns. Look at for him in the next couple of years. He’s going to be something to watch.

Hey folks. For those trying to read the game story I wrote online, you’ve probably noticed the whole story isn’t there. I’m working on getting that fixed, so hopefully it should be all there soon. But I’ll do what I can and post the story and box score here.

SANTA ROSA — Sophomore running back Dave Douglas delivered on his promise and last year’s winless season is now a distant memory for the St. Elizabeth High football team. The Mustangs completed their improbable transformation Saturday at Santa Rosa High by beating St. Vincent 12-0 in the North Coast Section Class B championship game to earn the first section title in school history.
“From nothing to something — that was our motto this year,” said Douglas, who missed six games with a broken collarbone and declared that when he returned he would lead St. Elizabeth to the title. He finished with 182 yards on 32 carries and scored both St. Elizabeth touchdowns.
“We just worked hard,” senior lineman Harry Jamerson said. “For the seniors, it’s our last year. We had to hurry up and get this done.”
After a scoreless first half, St. Elizabeth (8-4) forced a quick three-and-out to start the second half, and then its offense got right to work. It moved 65 yards in seven plays, with Douglas gaining 35 yards on four carries before scoring from 3 yards out. The two-point conversion attempt failed, but St. Elizabeth had a 6-0 lead with 7:42 left in the third quarter.
“We did a great job at halftime … to make adjustments,” coach Fred Sims said. “In the second half, we had a sense of urgency.”
It looked as if St. Vincent (8-4) was set to respond as it sharply marched to the St. Elizabeth 12. But on second-and-4, sophomore star running back Kris Farinha was hit and fumbled. The ball went out of bounds to maintain possession, but Farinha — who rushed for 1,189 yards on the season — was banged up on the play and did not return.
One play later, St. Elizabeth’s Tyler Woods broke through to sack quarterback Ian Williams. He fumbled, and Harry Jamerson recovered for St. Elizabeth at its 31.
“I wanted to pick it up and run for a touchdown,” Jamerson said. “But then I thought better and just fell on it.”
St. Elizabeth eventually scored, though, as Douglas capped a 13-play drive by plunging in from 1-yard out to make it 12-0.
St. Vincent drove back into St. Elizabeth territory, twice converting on fourth down as it reached the 9. But, an incomplete pass on fourth-and-7 from the 14 ended the drive with 2:59 left in the game.
St. Elizabeth then put away the game by pounding the ball with Douglas. He gained a key first down with a 21-yard run. He was banged up on the play, but after another first down, he returned to the field for the final kneel downs.
“I know the coaches and my teammates have trust in me,” Douglas said. “They all try their best to help me succeed.”
The longest drive of the scoreless first half came when St. Elizabeth moved down to the St. Vincent 15. A clipping penalty pushed St. Elizabeth back to the 30, and its 14-play drive ended when a fourth-down pass by Keith Seales fell incomplete.
The teams traded punts before St. Vincent put together its most effective drive, getting inside the St. Elizabeth 20. On fourth down from the 18, Williams dropped back but was wrapped up for a sack by Jamerson and Van Keobounheung, and St. Elizabeth got the ball back with 1:31 left in the second quarter.
Being aggressive, St. Elizabeth completed three passes and got a pass interference call to reach St. Vincent’s 34, but a Hail Mary pass was intercepted to end the half. That didn’t matter as St. Elizabeth owned the second half and pulled off the improbable turnaround.
“It hasn’t even hit me yet,” Douglas said.
