Daily De La Salle question….

Here’s todays question for debate on the De La Salle football team. Are the Spartans the cleanest football team ever, you do the officials just cave in when they’re assigned to a Spartan game?
My take - I have no doubt DLS is as disciplined as any team out there, but at the same time, over the years, I have seen some consistently poor officiating in De La games. For instance, the offensive line seems to jump every time, but the officials seem to think that because it’s DLS, they must know what they’re doing.
One final point - and an important one - there has never been a case where I think the officiating has helped DLS win a game. But boy, has there been some horrible efforts by the zebras.
Have fun all,
The Whistle

Actually, the one Spartans’ game I saw this year was Monte Vista-De La Salle, and I have to say it surprised me that DLS was the more disciplined team(no kidding) but SO much more than the Mustangs. Five personal fouls were called on MV and the Spartans did their best to keep their cool. Ive heard how DLS always hits harder and explodes faster off the line, but it was as if MV was just resorting to playing dirty. Too many late hits and nobody likes to see ugly games like that, but to answer the question, I don’t think DLS is always the cleanest team. They are rough too, especially when they feel challenged and dare I say threatened. The most determined team? Of course, yes. I havent seen a team that has the drive De La Salle does(16 NCS championships in a row prove that), but they get frustrated just like everybody else, and if you keep the penalties under control, you wont let the refs take away from your efforts and decide which way the momentum goes. hopefully Cal can do just that and make it interesting by keeping it close and not letting it slip away early. I saw SRV and Foothill attempt to do so in last year’s playoffs, but somehow it just never goes that way.

The refs weren’t awed by DLS tonight and called many penalties on early movement by their O line.
