Hoops anyone?

If some of you missed it (still in football mode, I understand), there was a great representation by a couple of boys basketball teams in the Gridley Tournament _ Newark Memorial and San Leandro.

Newark beat San Leandro to win the the tourney. Newark beat Branson (defending DV champs), always-strong Fremont of Oakland and then SL. San Leandro beat Jesuit (Carmichael) and Oak Grove _ two quality victories.

Time to bring out some boys hoops talk. Lets here some of your thoughts on other teams looking solid thus far!!!

One Response to “Hoops anyone?”

  1. Michael Bower Says:

That is pretty impressive for the Cougars. I have to think they are one of the top teams in the entire East Bay after blasting through that tournament. I talked with the San Leandro coach, Todd Petersen, and he said, “They are really really good. Solid everywhere.”

But another team from the HAAL could surprise this year. Castro Valley won the Washington Tournament and the Northgate Tournament. The Trojans are a threat to anyone they play just because of their 3-point shooting ability and newfound ability to drive to the hoop and score. They have already beaten Monte Vista (Mustangs were missing top two scorers), Granada and San Ramon Valley in the EBAL. Foothill beat the Trojans by one for their only loss this season.

I keep hearing talk about how the HAAL is down this season. I haven’t added up the combined records yet, but I know it is darn good.
