More local NFL notes

As our columnist Eric Gilmore pointed out today, this weekend’s NFL slate is chock-full of local interest. But, I wanted to add one more to the list. New York Giants defensive end Dave Tollefson is another local boy. Tollefson went to Ygnacio Valley High School and then landed at Los Medanos College.
Now, Tollefson is Michael Strahan’s backup for the Giants. I recall a moment in Sunday’s game when Joe Buck questioned why Strahan wasn’t on the field forĀ a key third-down in the fourth quarter. Instead it was Tollefson rushing Tony Romo into a poor throw.
I spoke with Diablo Valley College coach Mike Darr last night and he sung Tollefson’s praises, calling him a great story and a great guy. Darr was a defensive coach at Los Medanos when Tollefson played there.
