once again thanks for giving consideration to piedmont and college park instead of Northgate. They beat piedmont and have tied CP 1-1 both times they’ve played, but are ahead of them in league. I’ve seen SRV play…definitely not deserving of #8

  2. tym Says:

No kidding…once again no love for Northgate…..get Piedmont off the list and San Ramon should not be in the top ten…..Please read carefully so you can see…….San Ramon lost to Freedom!!!!!!!!!!! Freedom lost to Mount Diablo 3-0…..come on now.

  3. dmiller Says:

And Foothill beat Cal, so should they be ranked above Cal? One game does not make a season and as any soccer fan will tell you, there are times when a good team dominates and doesn’t get the result.

You can’t apply the “Six Degrees of Seperation” to soccer — it doesn’t work with soccer.

That being said, thank you for the feedback and look forward to the NCS playoffs when everything will play itself our right in front of us.

I have no problem putting my name out there on the poll so we can get some good soccer discussion going. Keep it up everyone.

    Dennis

  4. tym Says:

Dennis, Dennis, Dennis….the problem is not just the one game even though Freedom lost to Mount Diablo who is 0-12 in the DFAL. The problem I have is that you give no respect to the DFAL at all…you stick Miramonte on their which they deserve after the weekend they had but not having Northgate anywhere in this discussion is a little blind…especially having Piedmont and College Park on there. Northgate is 1-0-2 against those two teams and has 13 wins sitting in second behind Miramonte in league. College Park sits 4th in the DFAL. Also it seems like Monte Vista gets the pitty vote….that team just isn’t as good as last year so drop them…they won’t even make NCS.

  5. tym Says:

I’m glad you could see what I was saying about DLS…they aren’t that good and I will stick by my statement that they have about a 1% chance of winning NCS.

  6. alex Says:

i think that pittsburg isnt getting no respect and that they should be at number 1. they have played a harder scheduale than amador high. and plus if u where at the game pittsburg dominated amador, the ball didnt go in the net that night.

  7. Anon E. Mous Says:

    Mr. Miller:
I agree with Tym in that the teams at the top of the DFAL table are not shown enough respect. I understand Campolindo was on the top ten the previous week and now Miramonte represents the DFAL on the list. However Northgate (sitting #2 in the DFAL as of this post) at the very least deserves consideration if not arguably the #10 spot on your poll.
I understand your point about good soccer teams losing to weaker teams even though they may dominate a match - in the same token, 2A schools, such as Northgate may actually be better than a few of the 3A schools on the poll even if they have not played against each other this season.

  8. tym Says:

Amen. Come on Miller you can do it.

  9. Stan Says:

Alex what are you talking about? The header went through the defenders legs and into the back of the net. I saw it on tv in slow motion. Great goal.

  10. Gerd Says:

“Also it seems like Monte Vista gets the pitty vote….that team just isn’t as good as last year so drop them…they won’t even make NCS.”

I think your use of the word “pitty” is a bit strong, perhaps sentimental would be more accurate for the two - time defending NCS Champs.
Your assessment of their NCS chances, slim, is quite accurate. However, they have played nine matches against teams in this top ten ranking. They have 1 win 4 ties and 4 losses. Not worthy of pity, but respect , i’d say, for a very tough schedule and being competitive in all of their matches. Still, you are correct that they aren’t the same team as last year, but that’s what makes the High School season interesting I’d say.

San Ramon just beat CAL, and you want them out of the top ten? They are in first place in the EBAL! They beat Amador earlier this year too if I’m not mistaken.
by the way your information is incorrect, they tied Freedom, and that was when they had 5 players sitting out waiting for football to be over and Nomads I believe. they are a good team, and deserve to stay in this group.

  11. KnowItAll Says:

AV is #1 in EBAL by 1 point.

  12. tym Says:

Gerd….you are correct….SR tied Freedom 2-2…..it just seems like a loss in my eyes I guess. If you want to go that route though then Northgates loss to Bishop O’dowd in the beginning of the year certainly doesn’t count….they were missing 6 starters due to club.

Monte Vista doesn’t get respect this year due to in those 9 games they have 1 WIN!!…even if they are competitive you have to win games to get respect and get thought of for top ten status….to not even consider Northgate in this discussion is ludicrous.

  13. Gerd Says:

    Tym,
that’s 1 more win than DLS has against teams in this top 10!
My point was strength of schedule!
It’s pretty easy to orchestrate a schedule, either tough or easy. The choice a team makes, I believe, tells you a great deal about that program.

  14. tym Says:

Yeah in some cases (Monte Vista’s) they think they are better than they are…this year at least…..its one thing to have a tough schedule but come mid-february if you aren’t in the playoffs I am pretty sure everyone forgets about you…nobody is wondering what happened to Monte Vista….A schedule needs to be balanced so you play tough games

  15. tym Says:

so you play tough teams/good teams/mediocre teams/weak teams…a balanced schedule helps get you into the playoffs and from there anything can happen….Playing the toughest regular season schedule can only hurt you in my opinion.

  16. Aceitero Says:

    Schedules can be tricky.

I mean you do not know in advance who you will play in tournaments you participate in.

You may also want to play very strong out-of-section teams so your team can improve faster, but chances are nobody else will have played them.

You may also think that teams will be better than they turn out to be.

  17. alex Says:

apperently u saw the previews and didnt watch the game. first of all the starting goal keeper wasnt playing, thats for starters. secondly, they where missing the top goal scorer a foward witch will probably get mvp of bval. has about 16 or more goals. the goal was an error and yes they lost but pittsbur is the better team.

  18. Gerd Says:

“Playing the toughest regular season schedule can only hurt you in my opinion.”

You mean like playing in the EBAL?
I’m NOT saying they have the one or two best teams. I’m saying, without doubt, that top to bottom, this is the toughest league schedule in the section.

I disagree that schedules can be tricky. You may miss on one or two teams because of off years. But in general, the coaches know all too well who the better teams are.
Some steer clear, others drive into their neighborhood.
You can’t honestly tell me that it is better for a team to schedule weaker opponents.
As for out of section contests, that is a crap shoot when it comes to NCS selection. If the committee is trying to pick the best teams in NCS for the tournament then matches played in the section have much more significance and importance. Using something like rankings of the out of section teams may work for you or against you, but it’s risky. Personally, I think out of section games should be done away with so that all teams in the selection meeting would be compared on an even footing. I’m sure that is an unpopular stand, just what I think.
Anyone know how the NCS handles out of section results when they select the tournament by power rankings?

  19. SRVFan Says:

Response to Alex: You should go back and watch the coverage of the AV/Pitt game on TV30 - they showed the goal, a clear header into the back of the net. What are you saying - it was in error?

In close games you have to make your chances count - Pitt did not score, AV did that nite.

If it comes down to AV or Pitt for NCS #1 seed - AV will get it because of head to head.

  20. Soocer Fan Says:

    Alex,

It is a shame that you have to make excuses for your team. I was at that game in December and you are completely wrong about the overall game. First off Amador dominated in every aspect and at the 60 minute mark Pitt quit. They were so frustrated that they decided it was more important to argue with the Refs then play the game. Second they could not keep up with Amadors pace for the 80 minutes. Finally you stated that Pitt had the tougher schedule. Amador is the only team in the North Coast Section with a win over every league leader. So while it is great to be a fan of a team, it is also ok to step back and say “they beat us that game” and maybe we will get a second shot at them later.

  21. alex Says:

THATS GOOD U HAVE YOUR OPENION AND I HAVE MINE GOOD LUCK SOCCER FAN HOPE TO SEE U IN THE FINALS WITH PITT.

  22. alex Says:

THATS ANOTHER THING I WANTED TO BRING UP CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY AMADOR WOULD GET 1 IN NCS STANDINGS IF THEY ALSO LOST TO TEAMS PITT BEAT. I UNDERSTAND THE HEAD TO HEAD BUT IF U LOOK AT RECORDS AND TEAMS THEY PLAYED PITT BEAT MOST OF THEM. JUST A QUESTION SOMEONE CAN ANSWER FOR ME THANKS.

  23. Stan Says:

Alex: First off, based on schedules, I don’t know whether or not Pitt has played SRV, but I know that they beat Cal, and you are right about Cal beating AV 1-0 in EBAL. Cal still must play against AV, so it will be interesting to see that outcome. Lets look at the other schedules. Pitt is 1-0-1 against livermore, while AV is 2-0. Pitt tied MV 2-2, while AV beat MV 2-0. Pitt beat antioch 2-1, while AV beat antioch 3 or 4-0. You can look really far into the schedules, but it comes out about the same. Therefore, AV wins the head to head because they won head to head. Pitt has also not played SRV.

  24. RankinsCubs Says:

    Alex,

I give AV the following quality wins: Logan, Newark, Pitt, SRV, Richmond, Hayward, MV. All teams probably in NCS.

Pitt quality wins: Cal, Newark, Deer Valley. All probable NCS qualifiers.

Even though they have 3 losses (SRV, Cal, Bellermine - best team in CCS?) those “quality” losses plus seven quality wins is the most impressive resume of all the teams in NCS.

The beauty of sport - Pittsburg will get their chance in the tournament!

  25. tym Says:

AV is the number one seed…they play the toughest schedule and beat Pitt….Alex is probably a player on Pitt’s team who doesn’t know when to shut his mouth so just leave him alone.

  26. alex Says:

your funny tym looks like u are a old grumpy guy who doenst enjoy soccer. as for the ncs its going to be fun there are alot is a lot of competion and hopefully everone enjoys it.

  27. tym Says:

“there are alot is a lot of ”
Interesting Alex, you couldn’t have put it any better.

  28. alex Says:

THANKS TEACHER TYM UR SO SMART. JERK

  29. Gerd Says:

    Amador Valley 0 - Monte Vista 0

    California 2 - Granada 2

  30. Lancer Says:

    San Leandro 0 - Tennyson 3
    Are you guys surprised?

  31. Michael Bower Says:

Not really surprised with that Tennyson 3, San Leandro 0 score. The HAAL has been a little bit crazy this year with some of the scores. A lot of teams can beat the other in the league. But it looks like Hayward is going to capture its first crown since 2001. What will be interesting to see is if San Lorenzo, Tennyson and Bishop O’Dowd all get into the NCS 2-A field. I would have to think all three teams should get in. That would give the HAAL four teams in the playoffs. That would be very impressive.

  32. Gerd Says:

The last week of High School Soccer regular season is upon us.
Who are the likely league champions?
Who is going to represent 3A, 2A?

  33. tym Says:

HAHAHAHA, no need for name calling Alex.

  34. john Says:

    soccer sucks
football is a real sport. god damn foot fairies

  35. Kyle Bonagura Says:

John, thanks for your insight. How do you feel about Prop 94?
