NCS Softball night in the East Bay

10:10 p.m.: Well, I’m about done for the night. We have some pretty good matchups on Friday. I’m thinkin I’ll head to Albany to take in the Cougars and Heritage. That should be a great game. See you Friday.

10 p.m.: Sorry bout the delay. The game went final. Logan advances with an 8-5 win. The Colts play Freedom on Friday evening in Oakley. Should be a good one. The other score is now in. Bishop O’Dowd beat Campolindo 4-1.

9:40 p.m.: Steve informs me that Logan has taken a 8-5 lead in the top of the ninth inning. Deer Valley is the home team even though the game is in Union City because it is the higher seed. He said freshman Taylor Newhouse has pitched well for DV in her postseason debut.

Cheesy title, I know. Anyway, I just received word from Steve R. Waterhouse of the Fremont Argus. Deer Valley tied the game at James Logan in the seventh inning and it’s 5-5 heading to extra innings. Deer Valley star Emily Allard is not playing, due possibly to symptoms from the shot to the head she took last night. As I find out more, you’ll know. I’ll update this thread throughout the night.

NCS Softball: Day Two preview and predictions

Hopefully everyone has recovered from day one of the NCS softball tournament. There were some good games, some not so good, and the requisite upset of a top seed. Why is it in softball that a top seed always seems to go down every year? I’m sure Pinole Valley coach Tiffiny Valdehueza would kick me out if she saw me at the PV/Cal game today (I’m apparently the Spartans’ bad luck charm…) but hey, that could be an interesting one. Let’s get into the games!

Berkeley at Irvington: Baseball theater

This evening’s Berkeley-at-Irvington North Coast Section 3A East Bay game was baseball theater at its finest. Scoring opportunities for both teams, but great pitching dominating most all the way through. Oh, and what a finish! Last of the seventh, two outs, runners at first and second, and Irvington batter Ryan Tella facing an 0-2 count against Berkeley’s Tyler Bremer. And then Tella blasts a two-run triple to center field to win the game.

Baseball just does not get any better.

Performance of the day: Deer Valley’s Emily Allard

This is straight from a movie. According to correspondent Anthony Schultz, Deer Valley’s Emily Allard pulled one of the more impressive moves of this season and any other today when she got hit in the head with a line drive. Allard, after lying in the dirt for a few minutes, got up and had to take a concussion test. She passed, and proceeded to retire the next six hitters in order.

After the game, Schultz interviewed Allard and she showed him the red stitch marks on emblazoned on her forehead. I’ve long maintained she’s one of the most exciting players to watch. Now, she’s one of the toughest as well.

NCS scores list

Alrighty, as promised, here are tonight’s scores. The only one missing is the late game between Livermore and Clayton Valley but I’m told that Clayton was leading 4-1 in the third inning. Baseball is at the top, softball on bottom.
