Looks like the Times and Bill Krussink should be even more embarrased:

Tar Heels Run Past Maryland Behind Hat Trick By Jones

Carolina has a player post a hat trick for the second straight match.

Sept. 28, 2008

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Freshman forward Courtney Jones scored a pair of goals in the opening nine minutes of the match and then finished off her hat trick in the 60th minute as the No. 3-ranked University of North Carolina women's soccer team blanked the University of Maryland 5-0 Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 1,528 at Fetzer Field.

I would not expect to get all my soccer info from the Times if I really cared that much about soccer.
Prep Fan,

I believe the exact quote the gentleman who picked their soccer team said was, ``yes, she's good, but I think she's overrated.'' That was backed up by people inside their office saying, ``well, he did some research, so we'll agree with his pick.''

And that is why if you like soccer, don't read the Times.

Way to go Courtney! Represent for the East Bay. I'm still thinking that was some kind of error keeping her off the All-Times team last season. It could not have been based on any logical discussion.

Wow, that's amazing. For a true freshmam to make the team at UNC is amazing and to start is even more incredible. Then to go out and net the game winner in two straight games is off the charts.

Wait, isn't this the girl who didn't even make the All-Times first team last year? I still shake my head when thinking about how a player, who led arguably the top lead in the nation in scoring three straight years, then was All-American her senior year and got a full ride to as Kyle mentioned, the most storied program in the nation, could not make her local high school all-star team.

In addition, Jones is rubbing it in the faces of the EBAL coaches who used their hatred of Monte Vista to deny here the MVP award in her senior year.

So keep it up Courtney as you perform well at the highest level available to amateur women, while the same group of coaches are left here, still floundering at the high school level and the reporters who for the simple reason of their ignorance are left covering preps and dreaming of one day being able to cover something else.

We all know who will have the last laugh.
