Alhambra High School girls varsity basketball coach Mike Aboussie decided to take some time off to spend more time with his family.
Aboussie, who won 219 games as one of the most successful East Bay girls basketball coaches of the past decade, resigned last month after taking the summer to mull over his decision. “There comes a time and place when you have a 10-year-old and a 7-year-old that you have to shift priorities,” he said. “This was a very difficult decision for me. I’ve been coaching Martinez kids for years and it’s time to push the focus more onto my own kids.”
Of course, Aboussie has plans to return to the high school court some day. “I’ll be back,” Aboussie said. “I don’t know when just yet, but I’m not done.”
