surprising to see Foothill defeat Cal

Will be interesting to see the game stats for Cal-Foothill. Looks like SRV is for real too.

Ask and you will recieve….
About as ugly a game as you’ll see. Foothill’s defense played well, its offense controlled the game and Cal looked bad tonight. Not the same team I saw vs Bellevue and San Leandro. More to come later…

I said before that Cal is overrated and I still say it. People were laughing at me when I predicted 6-4 this year. Doesn’t look so far-fetched now with MV, SRV & DLS coming up and their record at 3-2.
October 10th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Gawd, I can honestly say Foothill-Cal was the most boring high school football game I have ever seen, at least for a game which was allegedly a showdown.
Cal was pathetic to be honest. You have a QB like Stompro, but your receivers suck so bad, you have to run the draw twice on 3rd and 15….that speaks volumns…Cal’s receivers are really bad…they run horrible routes and seem content to drop a number of passes. I feel bad for stompro, although I am sure Zwarg’s mother will push to place the blame elsewhere. I am sure she’ll try and run Sanchez out now.
Foothill’s weren’t much better as Mannion suffered through no less than seven drops which were right in their hands.
props to the foothill defense — they were garbage last week and were champs tonight.
October 10th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Gottogo….If Cal is that overated, then San Leandro and the rest of the HAAL is even worse than we thought. And I guess it doesn’t speak well of Bellvue either…I will admit, they looked like dung tonight and man, was Sanchez pissed at halftime..
I have a feeling he will light a fire under that team
October 10th, 2008 at 11:04 pm
DeLaSalle looked a little rusty tonite- 5 fumbles- 3 TDS called back because of holding- still Livermore did not get a 1st down until 4th quarter-late in thegame-next week vs. Foothill will be interesting. DeLa will have a good run to the end- Monte Vista and San Ramon wil be challenging. looking like another NCS crown if things hold together.
October 10th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
EBAL Fan - yes SL and the HAAL are indeed that bad. As for Bellevue, maybe they played a bad game against an unfamiliar opponent that night. The obvious question is which is the real Cal? The one that beat LL, SL and played close to Bellevue or the one that barely beat (and should have lost to) AV and lost to Foothill.
October 10th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Nice to see Mt. Eden get a win tonight,
they have a really good running back, and the kids work hard,
new coach seems to have instilled a great attitude there,
there aren’t going to win league, but they come to play.
October 10th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Kyle, nice to have stats so fast, wow - pretty amazing real time, buddy - thanks! Looking forward to the Live!
October 10th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
A quick question, what the heck happened to Castro Valley? Weren’t they supposed to challenge for the HAAL title?
October 10th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Big Joe,
There are first round byes in the Division I playoffs this year for the top four teams and DLS will certainly get one, so Berkeley definitely won’t see the Spartans in round 1.
October 10th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Concord pulled it out, lots of penatlys but they surrived
October 10th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
Jimmy, update- St. Pat’s 42 St. Mary’s 14. Game tied 7-7 half, 3rd qtr SM ahead 14-7, St. Pat’s then reeled off 35 straight points- 2 blocked punts and 2 intercepts- not the same jaurgaunot as last 2 yrs, lost line and 2 out of 3 running backs, but opportunistic when it counts.
October 11th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Cal was marching down the field, riding Green, averaging 5 + yards per carry for the game, it is 3rd and 2 and Cal gets off their horse (in 4 down territory) and tries a QB bootleg, gets dropped and now its 4th and 12.
Sanches should be pissed, but pissed at the SOB who’s play calling is so piss poor and predictable, not to mention the 9 or 10 five yard penalties.
Green is a stud runner, Cal was running the ball, but as usual, the play caller wants to get predictably cute and tricky and calls some BS play just like in Bellevue with 7 min to go.
Hey Cal play caller, do you really think Foothills D was going to stop Green short of 2 yards, two runs in a row? Doubt it and since were talking about play calling, how about having Green run around the ends once in a while? I know its not in you play book, you can find a diagram in the newest Madden release.
Cal did play very poorly, but this loss is on the coaches
October 11th, 2008 at 12:21 am
I’m pretty sure the Miramonte score was actually:
Mira: 52
Stagg: 7
October 11th, 2008 at 12:27 am
wwipres - and what’s with the multiple long throws. It wasn’t working, why keep trying when the running game was working all night
October 11th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Why not more Reggie too I wonder?
October 11th, 2008 at 12:32 am
Watch for Pittsburg High. The Pirates are for real and Monte Vista knows it. Holloween is “Showdown Friday”. With DLS-MV and Pittsburg Freedom meeting. Pitt is the best of the four with everything. Defense,(18 points last three games) solid QB play, (4 TDs passing in Friday’s Game) and superior athletes.
October 11th, 2008 at 12:35 am
excuse me…
Mira:52
Stagg:14
October 11th, 2008 at 12:36 am
ManO’War - he fumbled on one of his few carries, so maybe that’s why
October 11th, 2008 at 12:41 am
who u guys got in a couple weeks st.pats or encinal?
October 11th, 2008 at 12:44 am
Reggie is still recovering from some preseason surgery as well as a bad toe, he is not running as well as he is capable of, Reggie also fumbled the ball at a bad time, not sure if it was a bad hand off, besides Green keeps getting the yards. Keep running, when they stop your run then throw, they cant stuff the run and the pass
Got2go - Why the long throws? Cals play caller is just too cleaver. When Cal played DLS last year, Cals play caller was the only person who was surprised that DLS had a bunch of d-backs back there waiting for the long bomb on the first play of the game, Cal only tried the opening long bomb against almost everyone, so predictable
October 11th, 2008 at 12:52 am
Good points I guess but should one fumble really be the factor, I would say he’s less likely to fumble after that?…. Did he play downs on D?
October 11th, 2008 at 1:09 am
I’m picking Encinal I think. I haven’t seen St. Pat’s this year, but Encinal is dangerous, especially when they have Sashington back. I’ll go Encinal 35, St. Pat’s 28.
October 11th, 2008 at 3:07 am
Frankly, I thought Stompro looked awful tonight. There a few times when the receiver had a step deep and the pass wasn’t on target. He is not a top level HS QB, and he doesn’t need to be.
That play action call was horrid.
October 11th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Man O’War, maybe he fumbles at practice and that played into it.
WWipres, I agree that the play calling is getting predictable with it’s attempt to be “unpredictable”. You don’t need to throw long to prove some kind of point when you can run on the other team all day. The game was close, there was no need to panic. If Cal didn’t get the two interceptions by Mannion (who also didn’t look good), they would have been shut out. That’s inexcusable when you have a back who’s averaging around 150/game and 7.2/carry.
October 11th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
too many good scoring teams this year for cal to handle.unless your d.l.s.- you have to a good passing game, like mv,sr,freedom, foothill……pitt has more playmakers(speed)on offense and defense than cal. to make up for average passing game-so they are also players.you wont be able to ground out wins in the ebal or playoffs every week-you have to pass!!!,sanchez knows that!
October 11th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
The Voice- how can you say that Pittsburg is a better team than Monte Vista when they lost head to head. I’ll give you that Pitts linebacking core is one of the best I’ve seen but MV runs a much more productive offense. The better team won that night.
October 11th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
The Voice is a guy who has no grasp of the truth.. simple and Plain Pittsburg is not the best school in the east bay area.. maybe the classes of 04 and 05 should have been labeled as maybe the best but right now at this point.. Pittsburg offense isn’t hittin on all cylinders. I will let this be known.. I sure hope for a MV-Pitt rematch..
After being dismantled by the Tom Hemmingsen show, their defensive pass game has vastly improved.. I just wish MV would have actually kicked the ball deep on at least 1 kickoff.. they really took pittsburg special teams by surprise.. good coaching to eliminate the danger of Pittsburg taking 1 to the house.. The week after Berkeley learned why MV did so..
Well the past is the past time to look toward the future. I just really hope Pittsburg can utilize its speed and playmakers and put together an explosive and aggressive offense
Good luck to all the teams out there
October 11th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
“A quick question, what the heck happened to Castro Valley? Weren’t they supposed to challenge for the HAAL title?”
Overrated. Well, their first team can do some things, but apparently they got some bumps and bruises and i guess the old saying “you only as good as your worst man” holds true once again. You have to develop sound play with your reserve guys
October 11th, 2008 at 7:28 pm

October 11th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

October 11th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
I give credit to Pitt, they were the best team we have faced so far. And PHS04, you have it right about the special teams, we didn’t dare kick it to one of those guys.
And guys, before you go dissing Cal’s playcaller, be careful. Im not sure but I think Sanchez calls the plays
October 11th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
el cerrito will have smooth sailing until they play berkeley for the accal championship.
October 12th, 2008 at 8:08 am
The thing teams have to understand when they play Foothill, is the Falcons will always have a great game plan. That was the case Friday night with Cal. When the game plan is solid, it comes down to whether the kids execute it or not and whether the other team makes the proper adjustments. Against Monte Vista, the Foothill DB’s didn’t execute and thus you saw Monte Vista take advantage if the jump balls to Ertz. Against Cal, Foothill played much better and Cal didn’t make the adjustments, plain and simple. This is what makes the EBAL so strong — sure there are great kids, but the coaching, top to almost bottom, is as good as any in the section. You don’t get by with sheer athletic ability, you have think as well.
October 12th, 2008 at 9:14 am
Any chance there is an article out there about the BOD-SLz game that can be posted?

“And guys, before you go dissing Cal’s playcaller, be careful. Im not sure but I think Sanchez calls the plays”
MV O-Line - why be careful? He can handle the criticism. If indeed he’s the play caller, then he’s a big reason they lost the game. As EBAL fan said, Foothill made adjustments and Cal didn’t. Cal got outcoached in that one.
October 12th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
Sanchez does call the plays on offense.
October 12th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Maybe I misinterpreted, but it seemed like people were trying to take blame off Sanchez by putting it on “the playcaller”. That’s why I said be careful. If that wasn’t the case… my bad. However as a player for a team in the league I won’t go pointing fingers, especially before we have even played Cal. You can bet we aren’t overlooking them.
October 12th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
“Sanches should be pissed, but pissed at the SOB who’s play calling is so piss poor and predictable, not to mention the 9 or 10 five yard penalties.”
there it is. Thats what I was referring to. Comment by “WWIPRES”, whatever that means.
October 13th, 2008 at 11:54 am
what was the score to the Newark - Washington game?
October 13th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
I believe it was Washington 28 - Newark 7
October 13th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Washington should make the EastBay rankings this week.
October 13th, 2008 at 1:58 pm
marino wat happen at home 2 college park 69 points damn! this aint basketball.
October 13th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Washington has a lot of work to do still to get into the rankings. 1-4 is not poll-worthy. 6-4 with an MVAL title might be though. The Huskies need to run the table and probably won’t be considered for the poll until after the Halloween night game against Logan.
October 13th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
Washington is 1-4 and worthy of being in the top 15?? Let that comment stand alone.
October 13th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
@EBAL Fan: Not arguing one way or the other about Washington should be ranked, but just to be accurate they’re 2-4.
–>Paul B.
October 13th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Washington won’t get consideration unless it beats Logan. It’s that simple.
October 13th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Even then, Logan went 0-4 outside the MVAL. Face it, down down down year in the MVAL. My first full year covering the league, it’s is the best league in recent memory. I leave and look what happens.
October 13th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
sorry paul, was going off staff writer jimmy durkin’s 1-4 comment….i stand corrected, and stand by my original comment with the new record attached.
October 13th, 2008 at 5:33 pm
My bad, forgot about the Saturday win for Washington.
October 14th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
San Leandro 2-3 with whoppin wins over Arroyo and Hayward get you ranked… I’m sure Newark is way better then both of those teams.
October 14th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Joey, Newark beat Arroyo and I’m not sure if it would beat Hayward. Then again, Newark is the third-best (maybe fourth-best if it loses to Kenedy) in the MVAL.
It hurts, doesn’t it.
October 15th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Only thing that hurts is this ranking system. If a possible “4th best MVAL team” beats one of the only 2 teams San Leandro’s beatin and you’re still ranked 13th… That’s just full of logic.
October 15th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Newark beating Arroyo is irrelevant to San Leandro’s ranking (and not that it matters but San Leandro won by 19 more points than Newark). San Leandro isn’t ranked because it has wins over Hayward and Arroyo. The Pirates are ranked because they are a quality team that is only 2-3 because it went out and played one of the toughest schedules around. Give it O’Dowd or Encinal’s schedule and it’s easily 5-0. We’ll know more after San Leandro plays O’Dowd, but I still expect the Pirates to be 7-3, which given the nonleague teams they play, it was you would figure.
October 15th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Give San Leandro Newark’s schedule this year and the Pirates would be undefeated. It’s that simple, San Leandro is better than Newark. It’s simple logic, Joey.
October 15th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
I guarantee San Leandro would not be dominated by Milpitas, Logan, or Washington.
October 15th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
newark u lost 2 logan & washington your season is over don’t worry about being ranked.
