Had a chance to talk to Las Lomas WR Diante Jackson today about his decision to switch his verbal commitment from Oregon to Colorado. Here’s some of what he had to say.
Q: What made you change your mind? What does Colorado have that Oregon didn’t?
Diante: When I went up there, first of all, it was beautiful. Right away, the people caught my eye.
Everyone was so welcoming and most of them didn’t even know I was a recruit.
On top of that, the players are all tight and the thing that really caught my eye is it’s a family environment. The players are like that, the coaches are all family guys. It’s easier to talk to them then some coaches I’ve been with in the past.
Oregon just wasnt the right fit for me. Colorado felt like California with mountains around me.
The wide recievers coach (Eric Kiesau) at Colorado is amazing and I’m looking forward to playing with him.

Q: Looking back, do you regret making the decision you did in October?
Diante: Big time. It was hard because it was a heat of the moment thing. It was more other people saying stuff and not really me. I just did it without really thinking. I do regret it because i feel bad that I led them on and I didnt end up going.

Q: Any final thoughts on the switch?
Diante: I’m just seeing it as what are you going to do after football season. Even the players at Oregon say theres not much to do and I’m the kind of guy that likes to have options.

Diante said that he told Oregon coach Mike Bellotti that he was wavering about two weeks ago. He informed Colorado of his decision to come to Boulder yesterday (Jan. 1). He also added that he’s become a big Colorado recruiter as of late, trying to get other local players to come to Colorado. Official letter-of-intent signing day for football players is Feb. 4.
