The results are in from the uber-competitive Doc Buchanan Invitational at Clovis HS and Liberty’s David Klingsheim and De La Salle’s Tyler Sheridan are coming home with titles.
For Klingsheim, the championship is extremely impressive considering he wrestled at 125 pounds and beat both the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 130 pounds (Gilroy’s Martin Gonzalez) and 125 pounds (Lemoore’s Brandon Rocha). He beat Gonzalez 6-4 in overtime in the finals.
For Sheridan, the win gives a measure of redemption. He has a previous loss this year to Merced’s Chris Urquizo and that’s who he beat in the final, 5-4. Sheridan may move up to No. 2 in the state at 152 pounds.
Other local placers included De La Salle’s Vinny Moita (2nd at 103 pounds), James Logan’s Lawrence Blanco (5th at 119), Liberty’s Anthony Thurgood (5th at 130), Liberty’s Ryan Smith (5th at 135), Liberty’s David Rios (6th at 145), DLS’s Luke Sheridan (5th at 160), DLS’s Justin Walker (7th at 189 – and yes, he’s a freshman), and DLS’s Jordan Felix (5th at 215). Congrats to all the locals.
