We’ve got a couple slideshows for you to enjoy today. First, here is the weekly feature on the photos of the week.
Next, in case you missed it, here’s the Cream of the Crop slideshow
Some breaking news here. I just got word via e-mail from Jonathan Brown that he went on a visit to Boise State and loved his time there and committed to the Broncos. More to come later after I speak with him. He said he’ll be playing safety for Boise. Ironically, he’ll be teammates with Bay Area News Group-East Bay Offensive Player of the Year Joe Southwick, the player Brown beat out for overall Player of the Year honors.
UPDATE: I spoke with Jonathan and here’s what I’ve written up for tomorrow’s paper.
I’m perched at press row high atop McKeon Pavilion for tonight’s 8 p.m. boys basketball showdown between St. Mary’s at Salesian. The crowd is already getting packed and the stands are pretty juiced even during this JV game, which Salesian currently leads 47-36 with 3:34 left in the third period. Since I’m flying solo and also taking notes for the story I’ll be writing for the paper, I can’t provide blow-by-blow updates on here, but I’ll pop on here fairly regularly to give updates from tonight’s action. It should be a real good one. Click on the more link and read below to get the updates.
The annual Cream of the Crop, put together by our Deputy Sports Editor Mike Lefkow, will be running in the newspaper on Sunday. However, there will be a slideshow on the Cream of the Crop available online tonight. To check that out, click on the link below. If the link isn’t working, try back a little later today. The slideshow should be up by tonight.
Michael Bower just informed me that Craig Robinson, who is the Oregon State men’s basketball coach and President Barack Obama’s brother-in-law, is at the Bishop O’Dowd-San Leandro boys basketball game.
He got a treat when his verbal commit Jared Cunningham threw down a monster dunk in the first quarter.
By the way, San Leandro has a 12-4 lead with 2:45 left in the first quarter.
Here’s are tonight’s basketball games. A couple big OT wins for San Leandro and Northgate boys, plus Dublin edging Campolindo in the DFAL. They went wild in Livermore, with the Cowboys winning to break a 93-game EBAL losing streak (was it that long?).
Just a reminder to be on our blog at 11 p.m. tonight for Prep Corner Live! … a live streaming video show. We will have San Leandro High’s Jared Cunningham on for an interview around 11:10 p.m. Remember, viewers can phone in (510-931-7390). We certainly welcome players, coaches and fans to call in and comment or ask some questions. I will be at San Leandro tonight for Bishop O’Dowd-San Leandro boys hoops and then back to The Argus for the show. See ya tonight at 11.
Join Chace Bryson of the “Two Geeks” for some East Bay prep sports talk today at 4 p.m.
Due to the many requests that we have had, we are going to do a Friday night Prep Corner Live! show again starting this Friday at 11 p.m. Obviously, we will be talking hoops instead of football. Our audience will be able to phone into our show and ask questions. We will also interview players and coaches on the show. For those that haven’t heard of Prep Corner Live! it is a live streaming video show. See you Friday night at 11.
