Hello from Mission San Jose High. For those looking for finals matchups from today’s tournament, here they are.

103 – Vince Moita (De La Salle) vs. Daniel Gaytan (Clovis)
112 – Jesse Delgado (Gilroy) vs. Lawrence Blanco (James Logan)
119 – Chase Aura (Foothill) vs. Eric Perez (James Logan)
125 – Martin Gonzalez (Gilroy) vs. Clinton McAlester (Clovis)
130 – Alec Fraser (Livermore) vs. Sonny Cervantes (Clovis)
135 – Alec Dieter (Clovis) vs. Victor Pereira (Newark Memorial)
140 – Ryan Smith (Liberty) vs. Ben Kelley (Clovis)
145 – Scott Sakaguchi (Clovis) vs. Nick Waldrop (Freedom)
152 – Tyler Sheridan (De La Salle) vs. Jasper Loren (Saratoga)
160 – Luke Sheridan (De La Salle) vs. Brian Engdahl (Granada)
171 – Sean Dougherty (Las Lomas) vs. D.J. Cummings (College Park)
189 – Tommy Burriel (Clovis) vs. Andrew Reggi (Albany)
215 – Nick Pica (Concord) vs. Jordan Felix (De La Salle)
285 – Roger McCovey (Del Norte) vs. Richard Segovia (Silver Creek)

I had a chance to watch a good portion of the semifinals and here are a few observations.

  • Huge, huge win for Freedom’s Nick Waldrop over San Lorenzo Valley’s Cody Rodebaugh. Rodebaugh is ranked in the top three in the state and Waldrop took it to him with an aggressive match. Waldrop will have his hands full tonight against Sakaguchi, but it could be a fun one to watch.
  • Liberty’s Ryan Smith barely, barely, barely got out of his semifinal match, winning 1-0 in double OT. He should have a good match tonight with Kelley.
  • De La Salle is lookin good so far, with four wrestlers in the finals. On the last team standings I saw, DLS is second behind Clovis. With seven wrestlers in the finals, it would qualify as a minor miracle if a team other than Clovis won the team competition today.

Alright, that’s all I’ve got for now. Finals are slated for 6 p.m. Check back here around 6 for a live blog courtesy of Steve R. Waterhouse from the Fremont Argus. See you then.
