Pick’Em Challenge standings — round 1

Interesting first round with High School Sports Junkine, using his multi generational knowledge to tie for the early lead correctly selecting 27 of the 31 first round games
Our three writers who chose to participate all held their own (Me, Durkin and Bower) are also tied for first with Newyearstartsnow and DonFan (who didn’t participate after the first round last year).
Defending champion PrepFan has a little work to do, but with many games still remaining, there is plenty of time to position himself in a place for a repeat.
EBAL Fan’s selection of Sonoma Valley over Livermore killed his karma and picking SRV over Logan didn’t help either.
ECULB struggled without Mack to bank on finishing just ahead of Jammin JR, who turned his picks in late and still managed just 18 of 31 correct picks.
Feel free to update me if you I got your number wrong.
-Kyle

hey kyle-
did the sixth man contest end? or was there a write up? assume srv took it from av this year.
February 27th, 2009 at 12:54 am
haha, Junkie. I went to my inside sources for my Berkeley-Newark Memorial pick. It was tough to go against the Cougars since they beat Berkeley already this year, but I hear Newark isn’t playing so well right now.
February 27th, 2009 at 12:57 am
You gonna be at that Newark-Berkeley game, Junkie? Or does the wife have the ball and chain on you Saturday. haha.

I guess Junkie waits to the last minute to get all the latest injury reports. At least he is honest, and self reported the discrepency on his scoring. I’m sure Mike would have gone back over all the results with a fine-tooth comb and caught the error eventually anyway, but Junkie gets some serious Karma for the self report. There ar some great matchups this weekend, and several games that I had a tough time calling. Good luck to all.

I’m back in the running after missing just 1 game tonight. I thought Drake could put an end to the Analy winning streak, but it was not to be. Great game tonight at Monte Vista where they beat a determined Castro Valley team in OT. Looks like Logan gave DLS a good game, and 55 points is a lot against them. Scores:
Boys

San Leandro 82, Pittsburg 53
Monte Vista 64, Castro Valley 60, OT

The early D1 games today were won by the Newark boys over Berkeley and the Granada girls over Newark. After a quick look at the round 2 picks, I think Don Fan has a very unofficial 2-game lead on the pack heading into tonight’s D4 action.
February 28th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Prepfan how many losses do you have for Donfan
February 28th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Prep Fan,
I’ve only missed two this round. I think that puts me a point ahead of DonFan and newyearstartsnow.
February 28th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
When SPSV gets the W tonight that will bunch things up at the top
February 28th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Arcata won by 23 SPSV
February 28th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
These should be the standings…

My bad. It didn’t register that Don Fan took SRV over Deer Valley. I looked right past that one, and I didn’t see that he also took Miramonte since it was a separate post. With McKinleyville’s victory over Piedmont, I might have just taken the lead. I only missed 1 game in round 2. I’ll let Kyle add them up this time, as I obviously can’t count.
Winners in D4 tonight are:
BOYS: Salesian; Arcata; St Marys; Cardinal Newman.
Girls: St Mary’s; McKinleyville; Marin Catholic; Moreau Catholic.
February 28th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
My bad again. I didn’t realize Kyle had already totalled up all the games of round 2. Looks like Kyle & I have edged out Don Fan for the temporary top spot.
The games get much tougher from here on out, as all the teams left are high quality and have won a lot of games. 16 more to pick for round 3, including some real doozies, such as
Boys: St. Mary’s – Cardinal Newman, San Leandro – Monte Vista, Los Lomas – Northgate, and
Girls: Pinole Valley – Northgate & Deer Valley – Berkeley.
March 2nd, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Kyle I didnt even see that you put me on blast like that! Low Blow (LOL) But Im stinking up the joint right now DANG! Maybe I should’ve check out other teams in the area LOL!!!
