Marijon Ancich, whose record of 344 career victories is the one De La Salle coach Bob Ladouceur is tied with currently, is returning to coaching according to the L.A. Times and the Whittier Daily News. Ancich is returning to coach St. Paul-Santa Fe Springs. It will be his third stint as head coach at St. Paul.
Most figured Ladouceur would pass Ancich fairly early in the 2009 season to become the all-time winningest coach in California high school football history. Now though, Ancich will try to accumulate a few more wins with the Swordsmen. Ancich’s career record is 344-123-10 according to the Whittier Daily News.
If you’re asking yourself just how old Ancich is as he rejoins the coaching ranks yet again, join the party. No one will say just how old he is, although it is generally thought that he is in his seventies according to the L.A. Times. Last season, Ancich coached with his son at Villa Park High. He has not been a high school head coach since 2005.

Overall the North Coast Section playoff committee did a very good job of seeding the boys soccer teams in 2A and 3A, but there are a few things to question.
It’s late notice, but for those interested in watching the Comcast replay of Friday’s De La Salle-Monte Vista boys basketball game it’s slated to be shown at 2 p.m. this afternoon (Sunday). Comcast Digital customers should be able to find it on Ch. 104.
We’ll get under way, live from Las Lomas around 9 am.
I’m going to make some predictions as far as who I think will receive what seeds. I am also updating the rankings for before the seeding meeting and I am updating the league standings.
Check it out.
It’s 5:30 p.m. and I’ve already secured my perch in the upper corner of the bleachers at Monte Vista HS. The freshman game is in OT, and the gym is already near capacity. In a little more than an hour or so, we’ll be going live here to bring you all the action in what is essentially the EBAL championship game. Oh, and it also happens to be a matchup between the No. 2 and No. 17 teams in the state. Kind of a big deal. So make sure you’re here at or around 6:45 and we’ll get rolling.
The battle for the Hayward Area Athletic League boys basketball crown will continue into next week no matter the result of tonight’s game between San Leandro and Hayward. Bishop O’Dowd, who is currently one game behind first-place San Leandro, was scheduled to play the Pirates Wednesday at O’Dowd.
That game has been changed to Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Chabot College. This is a great move since the venue at O’Dowd certainly wouldn’t be able to hold the crowd this game is going to bring in. What a great atmosphere it is going to be out at Chabot on Tuesday. Two classic rivals going at it for a shot at the league title! Doesn’t get much better than that.
Our live video streaming show Prep Corner Live! will be on tonight at 11. We answer phone calls and comments from the blog that are left during the show. We will be talking playoff hoops tonight and hopefully get a few interviews with players/coaches. Make sure to tune in.
