Live from CIF State Wrestling: Morning Update

Welcome to Bakersfield everyone. We are about to depart for the one and only Rabobank Arena, but before I hit press row and start updating matches, I wanted to give a few quick hitters.

  • The Bakersfield Californian is reporting that the Bakersfield Convention and Visitors Bureau is going to announce today that the California Interscholastic Federation has recommended Bakersfield as the host city for state wrestling for the next three years. The article also says that Stockton, the former home of the state championships, was the only other city to place a bid.
  • Also in today’s Californian was a really nice feature by Zach Ewing on East Bakersfield coach Joe Triggs. Triggs, who won a state title for San Lorenzo in 1983, is retiring from East Bakersfield after this year’s state meet. Check it out.
  • The only other tidbit I have so far today is that Modesto Bee writer Will DeBoard has started a thread on thecaliforniawrestler.com to give a list of all the live blogs going on at today’s meet. So, if the NCS isn’t your thing (because we’re the go-to spot for NCS news, right?), check out the thread for links to other writers from other sections.

Alrighty. The next time you hear from Steve Waterhouse and myself will be from the arena. I’ll have early local results up hopefully around noon or shortly thereafter. See you then.
