Saturday night update
Well, it was Liberty’s year! The Lions beat San Ramon Valley 2-1 to be crowned Queen of the Mountain for 2009. Pitcher Shelbie Raposa was named tournament MVP. SRV was missing three starters due to the junior prom, but you gotta hand it to Liberty, it played great. Here is the all-tourney team and the box score from tonight’s game.

Saturday update
I don’t want to steal the basketball guys’ thunder, so I’ll put today’s update here. I just spoke with tournament director John Vasquez, and he informs me that in this morning’s semifinals, San Ramon Valley beat Livermore 1-0 on a 7th-inning home run and Liberty beat Granada 3-2. That means tonight’s final will pit the Lions from the BVAL against the Wolves from the EBAL. A win for either team would be a HUGE statement, as I think it’s safe to say neither was pegged as a favorite in their respective leagues coming into the season.

I’ll be out at Willow Pass Park tonight for the final, so I’ll post the result when I get back to the office.

Day 2 results

Championship quarterfinals

— Livermore 7, Amador Valley 2; Liberty 9, Monte Vista 1; Granada 3, Antioch 2, San Ramon Valley 4, Concord 2.

Where is the results and updates on Queen of the Mountain???

  2. Softball Parent Says:

    I don’t see Amador in those results……………

  3. Ben Enos Says:

Sorry bout that. Amador beat Campo 10-0 in five innings. That was the one box score we got, so it wasn’t in the list.

How is the All tournament team chosen? Do the coaches make the picks or the tournament director? I also heard 4 starters on the Granada team got benched today for taking the SAT test in the morning. Is that true? I sure hope it isn’t. Way to go Liberty! Congratulations.

  5. Liberty Parent Says:

    All Tournament Team:
Each coach is handed a sheet “For Consideration Paper” before each game. They are to nominate players for their team and the opposing team based on stats. They also input pitchers stats. They are then turned in to the tournament director, who then makes the selection. Coaches have no other input.
    Hope this helps.

Why all the comments about starts missing due to prom and sats? Did any of you go out and watch Liberty play? True, Liberty has had some tough nocks the last several years so I understand most people were super surprised by their win. If you watched the Lions play each of their games during “Queen” you would not have been one bit surprised…they outplayed every team they faced…they deserved this victory…way to go Liberty Lions and Coach Barios!

  7. Kim Says:

I am so proud of my girls and how hard they played this tournament. I loved Coach Barrios and Coach Melgoza, they are two amazing coaches and it is so upsetting that they retired. I am so glad that they did it after I graduated. Go Lady Lions!!!
