Outside of the top 2 do you guys just draw names out of a hat? Give DLS credit for scheduling tough, but 3-3 and ranked 3rd? DV beats LIBERTY and moves up 5 spots? Freedom loses and becomes ranked? Cal over Amador? If Amador and Cal play 20 times I bet AVHS wins 19 of them. Antioch knocks off Pitts one man show and sits behind them? San Ramon drops 2 in a row, but we better make sure the EBAL has 5 of the top 10!

  • hsbbguru

Not to mention that Heritage beat both Alhambra and Freedom and can’t even rate “Others receiving Votes” There are obviously some biased people doing the voting! Do you people even attend HS Baseball Games? Have you watched Cal play this season? They are horrible. PBBFAN you hit right on the money. The EBAL “homers” shouldn’t even have a vote!

  • Darrell Packard

Why do you consistantly not mention Heritage High School? In baseball they are 4-3 same as Freedom, and they beat both Freedom in 1st League game and Alhambra in pre-season. They didn’t even get a mention in also receiving votes.

  • PrepBBFan

EBAL has one NCS 3 times in the last 15 years (not including DLS 5x, as they were a member of the BVAL). When are you “experts” going to make the EBAL prove themselves before putting them on a podium year in and year out? Adding DLS to the league doesnt much change things. Really all it does is give the EBAL another bid to the playoffs, as DLS is almost assured one every year regardless of their league affiliation.

Open your minds (maybe your eyes too) and see that there is a lot of good baseball outside of the Tri-Valley!

  • PrepBBFan

oops…i meant “won” NCS, not “one NCS”. Was going to say they have ONE championship in 7 years, but changed it and didn’t revise it all the way. Promise I’m not illiterate!

  • Michael Bower

It is the second week of our poll. If the team you are rooting for is good enough to get in the poll, then it will get in the poll. Plenty of season to go. It will all get worked out on the diamond…

  • Michael Bower

ohh, Just in case anybody is wondering … Bishop O’Dowd petitioned up from Division III to Division I for baseball.

  • PrepBBFan

    Michael,

We are all aware that in the end the cream will rise. I think we are just questioning the validity of the poll. Lets use Freedom as an example. They are 1-3 in the last 4 and they move into the poll? Who looks at that and says “yeah, we nailed it. Best 15 teams in the area since last week!”?

  • http://EBALBBGUY EBAL BB GUY

Yes it is only a poll, but ask any coach outside of EBAL – and you put ANY EBAL school in any other league in NCS…top 3. No questions. How do you claim for Heritage…they lost to perhaps the worst team in EBAL (Granada). And they are 0-3 vs EBAL. Freedom (1-2 vs EBAL) and Irvington (1-1 vs EBAL). EBAL gets credit because they have earned it. And most EBAL schools play tough preseason schedules (vs WCAL vs top ranked teams). NCS has changed – about 10 years ago they got rid of seeding teams by leagues… meaning they would split up EBAL teams, MVAL, BVAL teams, etc in 1st round games. The other leagues complained so NCS is now a straight seed with many EBAL school lined up in the first two rounds. There is no argument that the other leagues do not have quality teams- Clayton Valley is a very very good team (Logan / Newark / Deer Valley / College Park- just to name a few- are quality programs). But top to bottom no one is even close to the competition in EBAL. I do not want to mention schools that are bad, but some leagues have teams that would lose to JV EBAL schools. There are no “cupcake games” in EBAL, which is why a team that goes 8-6 or 7-7 in EBAL play gets a seed higher than other leagues. So you are correct EBAL does not win NCS every year. There are 16 teams in a tourney. Anything can happen in NCS, and the teams that won are deserving, but does that mean since College Park won NCS their league earned 6 NCS playoff spots? No.

  • Michael Bower

There are very few times that I sit back and say, “yeah, we nailed it.” But people have different opinions and that’s why we vote and then compile them. Otherwise, we would never agree here in the office on a top 15.

As for Freedom, we didn’t get the result from the Heritage-Freedom game until after we voted. So that would explain that one….

  • Tom Meyer

EBAL BB GUY…….. good thing the Pitching Center is out that way. None of the starting nine for Irvington are getting private or group lessons. I have a friend who lives in San Ramon and he takes his 10 year old to the Pitching Center twice a week and said in the offseason the place is packed with EBAL players.
I know I can’t afford to do that with my son ( he’s the catcher for Irvington). That may be one reason the team in the EBAL are so evenly talented

  • Mark Marino

If you happen to catch an Irvington game. Stop by and see Tom Meyer’s son TJ. He is a D1 talent and the best arm for a catcher in the east bay. TJ has several home runs and game winning hits. For all Tom has to say, he is awfully modest about his son’s mega abilities.

  • renegades10

have u ever looked at the 3 losses DLS has? Three 1 run losses to a 10-4 Valley Christian team, a 5-0 Elk Grove team, and to St. Mary’s of Stockton the team that gave Monte Vista it’s only loss of the season. It’s three wins are against Newark, SRV and Serra of San Mateo.

  • GrizzliesBB

This Just In…..Cal High 4 Amador Valley 2 Pitching is way ahead of hitting at this point. Kochen looked good. LaMarche had control problems.

  • Mark Marino

    TJ Meyer Watch
Another homerun for the Irvington catcher tonight against Mission. This one a “grand salami”. That ties him for the MVAL homerun lead.

  • Tom Meyer

Thanks Mark. What impresses me is that he calls his own game and I can’t think of any other catcher we’ve played that do that

  • Ballfan

Talk about parity! Granada beats DLS, San Leandro battles BOD to the finish, Dublin beats Alhambra, and there are four teams in BSAL with one league loss. Except for top 2 spots, doing the ranking just got harder, not easier.

  • hsbbguru

Parity? Granada and Cal would be good JV teams this season. It goes to show you that the “Mighty” EBAL may not be as good as the good folks ranking these teams think.

  • Tom Meyer

HOW IN THE HELL CAN THERE BE NO COVERAGE OF ANY MVAL GAME IN TODAYS ARGUS…..WHERE WERE YOU WATERHOUSE?

  • Ballfan

HSBBGURU: You may be right about the EBAL teams not belonging in the top 10/15 (I’ve only seen MV – their pitching alone makes them well deserving of the No. 1 spot), but my point was that there appears to be a lot of parity within the leagues this year based on results only, e.g EBAL: little respected Granada beating DLS, HAAL: BOD not dominating, Arroyo losing to Mt. Eden, DFAL: Alhambra losing to Dublin, etc. etc. – can’t remember that much balance league to league in some time. Am I wrong?

  • GrizzliesBB

Hsbbguru: Say what you will about Cal and Granada, but Cal did beat Amador Valley, San Leandro 19-0 and Newark Memorial 4-2. Granada has been very quiet and got a big win against DLS. I think you need to give them more credit than calling them good JV teams. I do not think anyone is going to run away with the EBAL title. It will be fun to watch as the season goes on.

  • Prep Fan

Now Cal beat Foothill yesterday with a sophomore on the mound. I guess he should be on the JV team. DLS pounds Livermore 10-0. There are no weak teams in the EBAL this year.

  • GrizzliesBB

Not to mention that MV just gets by Granada 2-1. Amador Valley beats SRV as well. What a strange league this is. I am impressed by the younger players this year in the Sophomores and Juniors. Cal now has MV and SRV next week….
